The Speech Therapist is an integral member of a multi-disciplinary team who manages patients with communication, cognitive, and swallowing disorders in order to optimize and achieve maximal functional outcomes. He/she has to ensure a high standard of clinical practice and professional conduct in all areas of patient care and be able to conduct and participate actively in continual professional development.As a Senior/Principal Speech Therapist, he/ she demonstrates extensive experience and knowledge in the area of inpatient, outpatient, community and preventative care. The therapist demonstrates advanced expertise and knowledge in the area that he/she is specializing. The Senior/Principal Speech Therapist demonstrates comprehensive understanding and insights into departmental and hospital operations and directions. He/she should also be able to initiate and oversee the planning, implementation and execution of new services and initiatives.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates an in-depth understanding of the related areas of specialty
  • Possesses advance knowledge, skills and clinical reasoning in specific area
  • Demonstrates an in-depth understanding of general operational aspects of the department and hospital
  • Initiates in area-related processes and improvement projects
  • Initiates the planning, implementation and execution of new services, and initiatives within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Possesses good supervisory, coaching and mentorship skills
  • Demonstrates effective leadership skills in projects and teams
  • Demonstrates ability to trouble-shoot and problem-solve
  • Be responsible for the department and individual caseload
  • Plan and allocate on manpower resource and coverage based on departmental needs
  • Ability to capitalize on hospital technology (e.g. IT applications) to improve departmental processes and workflow
  • Maintain and monitor departmental and hospital KPIs
  • Coordinates processes and flow within teams which includes understanding each area's operations
  • Planning and development of services under the guidance of the Supervisor/ Manager
  • Assist in the regulation of the finances and workload of the section to ensure cost-effectiveness and productivity
  • Assist to evaluate manpower needs and assist in the recruitment of new staff
  • Set directions for sub-team development with considerations to SWOT analysis and directions set by the Supervisor/Manager and above
  • Deputize in the absence of Supervisor/Manager
  • Handle patient feedback and media enquiries
  • Initiates and lead team/ departmental projects
  • Possess ability to develop and facilitate rehabilitative intervention plans and strategies
  • Demonstrates ability to identify and plan the training needs of the team
  • Possess the ability to identify and source on advancement in research and technology pertaining to the relevant area
Requirements:
  • BSc/ master MSc/PhD in Speech Therapy that is recognised by Allied Health Professions Council.
  • Registered with the Allied Health Professions Council.
  • At least 6- 8 years of relevant work experience preferred, with 2-3 years of leadership experience (i.e. leading staff and projects)
  • Competent in IT skills (Microsoft Excel/Word/Powerpoint)
