Posting Start Date: 21/08/2025

Job Description:

Job Description

Applications are invited for the following full-time position in the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health:

Research Fellow for Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health

The Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health (SSHSPH) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) is recruiting a full-time Research Fellow to work on mathematical and economic modelling of infectious diseases and pandemic preparedness. This role provides an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge global health research, collaborate with world-leading experts, and develop an independent research portfolio in infectious disease epidemiology and health economics. This position is ideal for candidates who have recently completed their doctoral training and are seeking to establish themselves as independent researchers in infectious disease modelling, health economics, and vaccine policy.

Job scope:

  • Lead and contribute to high-quality research on infectious disease modelling and health economic evaluations.
  • Design, develop, and extend mathematical, epidemiological, and economic models for evaluating infectious disease interventions, including pandemic preparedness and vaccine cost-effectiveness.
  • Develop and execute independent research projects aligned with the School's strategic priorities (e.g., vaccine-preventable disease with pandemic potential).
  • Contribute to drafting and leading research grant applications as principal investigator or co-investigator.
  • Produce high-impact peer-reviewed publications, including as first and senior author.
  • Collaborate with international teams of modellers, economists, and public health experts.
  • Supervise and mentor junior researchers and PhD students.
  • Disseminate research findings at international conferences, workshops, and policy meetings with key partners.
  • Participate in the academic life of SSHSPH and contribute to teaching and capacity building where appropriate.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated expertise in infectious disease modelling and/or health economic evaluation, supported by peer-reviewed publications in high-quality journals.
  • Proficiency in programming and modelling tools (e.g., R, Python, C/C++, Julia).
  • Excellent quantitative and analytical skills, with experience handling complex datasets and conducting statistical analyses.
  • Strong writing and communication skills, with experience presenting to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams across different countries and cultures.

The following knowledge and experience would be advantageous:

  • Experience contributing to research grant applications or leading funded projects.
  • Experience supervising students or mentoring junior colleagues.
  • Experience with teaching and assessment (desirable but not essential).
  • Experience with epidemiological modelling of infectious diseases.
  • Experience with data analysis using statistical inference techniques.
  • Experience with health economic evaluations.
  • Experience with parallel and/or high-performance computing.
  • Familiarity with agent-based and compartmental models for infectious diseases.

The grade of appointment will be accorded based on candidate's academic qualifications and years of relevant experience.

Applicants should send the following documents during the application by 24 Sept 2025:

a. Cover letter highlighting career goals and relevant experience

b. Curriculum Vitae, containing details of three named referees

Please note that only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.

Qualifications

  • A doctoral degree (PhD, DPhil, or equivalent) in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Mathematical Modelling, Health Economics, Public Health, or a related quantitative discipline.
