The Opportunity
The Transaction Liability Underwriting Lead provides strategic direction for underwriting portfolios in the region, with a focus on growth, profitability, and risk management in the M&A insurance space. This role develops underwriting guidelines, underwrites complex new business (including warranty & indemnity and tax liability insurance), and offers specialist advice. This role is responsible for building and maintaining broker and client relationships, applying technical expertise, contributing to business results, and staying abreast of industry standards and new product developments in transaction liability insurance.
Your new role
- Underwriting Leadership & Standardisation
- Lead and influence the standardisation of underwriting across transaction liability products by defining risk assessment parameters and setting quality service standards.
- Oversee the underwriting of representations & warranties (R&W), warranty & indemnity (W&I), tax liability, and contingent liability insurance policies for M&A transactions across multiple sectors and jurisdictions.
- Structure and negotiate bespoke policies with lawyers, brokers, and clients, both domestically and internationally.
- Relationship Management
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers, lawyers, bankers, and clients to drive new business opportunities and win new accounts.
- Establish and strengthen stakeholder relationships to maximise influence and achieve business objectives.
- Business Planning & Delivery
- Support the development and execution of the annual business plan for the transaction liability portfolio.
- Contribute to the team's business plan to maximise productivity and performance.
- Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines and conduct regular portfolio reviews.
- Effectively assess and price risks, considering factors such as business sector, deal structure, jurisdiction, and indemnification obligations.
- Technical Expertise & Due Diligence
- Act as a technical expert, supporting the identification of issues and opportunities within the transaction liability space.
- Manage and evaluate due diligence, review transaction materials, and provide preliminary terms for M&A transactions.
- Market Awareness & Innovation
- Maintain awareness of competitive market dynamics and emerging risks in transaction liability insurance.
- Monitor market trends and adjust underwriting strategies to address evolving risks and regulatory changes.
- Learning & Development
- Continually develop expertise and technical knowledge through appropriate learning and development activities.
- Mentor and coach junior underwriters to build team capability.
- Resource Management
- Manage resources across the team to ensure business requirements and service standards are achieved.
