**Job Scope**

Nurses plan and implement the nursing care of their patients. They assess patients’ needs and draw up a plan of care. They also observe the effectiveness of care and modify the plan, if required, to promote the patients’ recovery. Nurses also assist patients to regain or retain their independence, which allows them to continue living at home.

**Personal Qualities**

Nurses require good communication skills to establish and maintain relationships with patients and their relatives. These skills help them to work effectively within the healthcare team. Since nurses have to take care of patients, it is essential that they have emotional resilience and an attitude to help others. They must be able to act resourcefully with care and patience when dealing with patients’ demands and other difficult situations. Nurses also require a certain level of physical fitness.

**Requirements**:
To qualify for the Professional Conversion Programme for Registered Nurses, you must have graduated or completed National Service for at least 2 years with
- A degree from a recognised university; or
- A local polytechnic diploma; or
- GCE 'A' level credits refer to grades A to E

**GCE 'O' level credits refer to grades A1 to C6
