**What the role is**

The Scientist/Senior Scientist (Chemical Research) will be working in the Research and Exposure Science Department under the National Centre for Food Science of SFA to carry out applied chemical research to develop new analytical capabilities in support of SFA’s mission to ensure and secure a supply of safe food for Singapore.

**What you will be working on**
- Conduct applied chemical research, identify problem statements, generate research hypotheses, recommend technology-based solutions, and/or determine research strategies, in support of the agency’s food safety operations, risk assessment and policies
- Perform laboratory analytical functions to ensure quality output and contribute to the development of new analytical capabilities
- Develop and validate new methodologies to tackle emerging food safety issues
- Develop and enhance the non-targeted screening platform for food safety early alert
- Plan and conduct the screening of food samples to identify potential new and emerging foodborne chemical hazards.
- Communicate research results through conference presentations, scientific publications, project reports that may be catered for different audience e.g. academia, scientists, policy makers and the general public
- Organise and maintain proper documentation of research data, scientific interpretations, and project proposals
- Perform supportive administrative work including procurement, drafting of project agreements

**What we are looking for**
- Postgraduate degree (minimum MSc or preferably PhD) in Chemistry, Food Science, or related disciplines
- At least 2 years of relevant experience in research with good scientific publication record
- Experience in analytical chemistry laboratory testing and operation of advanced instrumentation like mass spectrometry
- Proficient in the design of research proposals and execution of research projects
- Highly motivated, self-driven to work independently in a fast-paced environment and able to multi-task
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills
- Knowledge in basic programming is desired.
