**Demurrage Analyst - About the Role**
The Demurrage Analyst is responsible for the end-to-end review, calculation, negotiation, and administration of demurrage and ancillary claims related to marine cargo operations. This role plays a critical function in protecting and enhancing the commercial performance of Petrolimex Singapore by mitigating exposure to unwarranted demurrage costs and supporting claim recoveries from third parties. The role interfaces across Trading, Chartering, Operations, Finance, and external stakeholders to ensure efficient and compliant claims handling.
**Key Responsibilities**
**Claims Review & Analysis**
- Review, assess, and acknowledge demurrage and ancillary claims from shipowners, suppliers, and buyers, ensuring timely response and compliance with contract terms.
- Analyse charterparties, sale contracts (including GTCs), shipping documents, and port logs to determine liability and compute demurrage and other shipping-related costs.
- Track Petrolimex Singapore shipments to identify demurrage exposure, analyse voyage timelines, and assess areas for claim recovery or cost minimisation.
- Highlight unfavourable terms or operational pitfalls that may impact demurrage recovery to internal teams, including the Contracts and Operations teams.
**Claim Preparation, Submission & Negotiation**
- Prepare and submit complete, accurate, and well-supported demurrage claims to shipowners, suppliers, and buyers within applicable time bars.
- Develop counterclaims and engage in direct negotiations with external parties to secure favourable settlements and avoid unjustified costs.
- Escalate unresolved or complex disputes through internal dispute resolution procedures as necessary.
- Ensure timely and complete submission of all outgoing claims, with proper documentation
**Payables, Receivables & Financial Coordination**
- Manage demurrage payables with shipowners and brokers, ensuring accurate claim validation and timely settlement.
- Calculate, issue, and track receivables from suppliers, receivers, and terminals, maintaining strong follow-up to ensure timely recovery.
- Maintain a master tracker of all demurrage claims and provide regular financial exposure and recovery updates to Commercial and Finance teams.
- Work with Finance, Settlement, and Accounting teams to coordinate payment approvals, accruals, and invoicing activities.
**Data Management & Reporting**
- Maintain up-to-date demurrage and ancillary cost data
- Prepare and deliver monthly claim status reports and dashboards to management and commercial teams, highlighting trends, recoveries, and exposures.
**Stakeholder Collaboration & Compliance**
- Liaise closely with internal stakeholders such as Cargo Operators, Vessel Operators, Charterers, and Traders to ensure accurate information gathering and alignment on claim strategy.
- Uphold internal controls and claim approval protocols; escalate issues to the Operation Manager when required.
**Continuous Improvement & Business Support**
- Build and maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders, including brokers, shipowners, and counterparties, to support smoother claim resolution.
- Support special projects or business improvement initiatives as assigned, including process automation or system enhancement.
**Qualifications & Experience**
- Tertiary qualification in Maritime, Supply Chain, Business, or a related discipline.
- 1-2 years’ experience in demurrage, operations, contract management, accounting, or a shipping/trading-related function.
- Prior exposure to petroleum trading, tanker operations, or commercial shipping is highly advantageous.
**Skills & Knowledge**
- Strong analytical and numerical skills with a high level of attention to detail.
- Effective communicator with the ability to negotiate and influence outcomes externally and internally.
- Familiarity with petroleum GT&Cs (e.g., BP GTC, Shell Voy 6) and common charterparty terms.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel (including PivotTables, XLOOKUP, charts).
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively under time pressure, with a commitment to continuous learning and improvement.
