Based in Singapore, reporting to the VP of Engineering, the Engineering Manager, Apps role is a technical management position that requires you to have depth in the area you are guiding the team in.
**About the Role**:
The Apps team is responsible for maintaining and evolving the Viki product experience on iOS and Android mobile apps; Apple TV, Android TV and Roku connected TV apps; and Smart TV apps.
As the Engineering Manager for the Apps team, you will be responsible for managing and mentoring engineering talent, owning overall team growth and development. You will help ensure the quality and timeliness of team deliverables, manage team resourcing and utilization. For the Smart TV apps, you will work with our development partner to guide their development activities and deliverables.
To be successful in the role you will need to be passionate about partnering with Product, Design and Platform Engineering teams to work collaboratively on developing a world class streaming experience across devices. You will need to be a strong people leader and communicator as this will serve you well with influencing stakeholders to build consensus and deliver outcomes.
**Key Responsibilities Include**:
- Conduct regular 1:1s with your direct reports to guide their ongoing professional development.
- Conduct bi-annual performance reviews for your direct reports and setting goals individually and as a team.
- Develop a high performing team and maintain a high degree of engagement, productivity and quality of output from your team.
- Support Product Managers in making project resourcing decisions that align with team members’ aspirations for professional growth and development.
- Work with Platform teams to design APIs that support product experiences.
- Ensure your team members’ adherence to development standards and best practices.
**Requirements**:
- 4+ years of experience in managing people and developing talent.
- A degree in Computer Science or related field.
- Knowledge of and experience using a wide variety of architectural design patterns, including but not limited to MVC, MVP, MVVM and VIPER.
- Knowledge of CS foundations such as data structures, algorithm design, problem solving, multi-threading, complexity analysis and debugging.
- Experience working with a wide variety of third-party platforms, frameworks and libraries.
- Knowledge of REST and integration experience with backend APIs.
- Experience with implementing different testing strategies using automation and passionate about reducing regressions and minimizing defects throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Proven record of releasing apps to the store.
- Strong delivery experience with managing scope, resourcing and stakeholder expectations with respect to timelines.
- Strong understanding of Agile principles and methodologies, including workflows and ceremonies.
