We are looking for a Trainee Attorney, Biotechnology with a diverse technology background.
**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Meeting with inventors to determine the nature of proposed inventions and to form a view as to their patentability; this requires the trainee patent attorney to draw on experience in relevant technology fields
- Conducting prior art searches and analysing results to determine an appropriate scope of patent protection for clients
- Preparing patent specifications for inventions, and discussing same with clients
- Coordinating the patent portfolios of local and overseas clients, including assisting clients to devise Intellectual Property strategies for particular inventions or industry sectors
- Providing patent infringement advice, including clearance advice on whether products/processes may infringe third party patents in Singapore
- Advising clients on matters of Singapore Patent Law, including disclosure requirements, procedures and practices, patent maintenance, licensing, and infringement and revocation proceedings.
**ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATION**
- PhD in biological sciences or biochemistry, preferably with expertise in immunology, genetics, bioinformatics or chemical biology.
- Postdoctoral and/or industry experience, demonstrating a diverse technology background will be viewed favourably
- A legal background is not required
- Prepared to undertake part-time studies to qualify as a Patent Attorney (typically 2-5 years in duration).
You will work closely with Principals and Senior Patent Attorneys of the firm to develop your skills and build strong working relationships with clients.
