Chemist (Johor River Waterworks)

**What the role is**

**What you will be working on**
- As a Chemist (Johor River Waterworks), your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

- Lead, guide and manage the quality control team in the day-to-day operations of the advanced laboratory at Johor River Waterworks such as planning day-to-day activities, rostering, leading and guiding team to complete assigned tasks, validating laboratory measurements, timely instrument maintenance, ensuring adequate stocks of chemicals and consumables etc.
- Lead emergency response on laboratory operations during contingency events such as planning for QC staff deployment, liaising with other sections for mobilisation of mobile lab/ remote raw water quality monitoring equipment, planning and executing special sampling programmes, reviewing emergency response SOP during peacetime.
- Provide advice to the operations team on water treatment.
- Provide specialist knowledge and skills on advanced water quality testing: Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (GCMS), Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES), Flow Injection Analysis (FIA), Total Organic Carbon Analyzer.
- Contribute to the board wide review and formulation of water quality monitoring plans and risk management for water quality issues.

- Any other duties assigned by Section Head/ General Manager

**What we are looking for**
- Degree in Chemistry-related or Water Sciences disciplines.
- Knowledge in techniques and testing procedures for trace elemental testing, identification, quantification of both targeted / non-targeted volatile organic compounds analysis, and other related tests on pollution indicators.
- 2 years of experience operating advanced laboratory equipment such as Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry, ICPOES and FIA
- Independent, result oriented and self-driven team player.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
