**About the Role**

We are seeking a Head of Design who will lead product design and research to bring our product and corporate strategies to life.

As Head of Design, you will be responsible for implementing best in class product design and research practices. You will lead and coach the product design function in planning and organising their work from inception into production in order to drive outcomes that are aligned to RightShip’s product vision and business strategy.

Your impact will scale through your team members by helping them achieve success in their roles and by coaching the wider business in the value and skills required to create great experiences for our users. You also play an important role as a People Leader, driving high employee engagement and coaching and mentoring your team members.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Represent and be the voice of design throughout RightShip.
- Lead the standardisation and optimisation of product design across multiple teams.
- Raise the bar for design quality, ensuring that we consistently hit a high standard.
- Define RightShip’s user experience strategy and program of works.
- Guide the continual improvement and expansion of the RighShip design system.
- Evolve and improve the design practice’s principles, standards and processes.
- Strategize, implement, and maintain design program initiatives and budget that adhere to organizational objectives.
- Ensure that UX is well-integrated into the Product Development Flow, and advocate for process changes that help product management, engineering, and UX work together to build a great experience.
- Ensure that the Development Team is included in the UX process by offering the opportunity to participate in and understand the outcomes of user research, give early feedback on upcoming designs, and participate in design system strategy.
- Collaborate with the Head of Delivery, Head of Development and Head of Marketing to ensure high performing cross functional teams.
- Help drive cross-product workflows by having an awareness of what's happening across all sections through active participation in design reviews, UX Showcases, and group conversations.
- Create objectives and key results for the product design function and measure progress against them.
- Hire and retain a world-class team of Product Designers and UX Researchers.
- Set Product Design short and medium term budgets and business objectives with the CPO and be responsible for the implementation and attainment of the agreed plan.

**People & Leadership**
- Foster an open and collaborative culture based on trust in the UX department, where everyone feels empowered to do their best work.
- Coach and develop design team direct reports, conduct 1-on-1 meetings and hold mid-year and full year performance reviews with direct reports.
- Hands on day-to-day knowledge of what’s going on in all the teams, looking for opportunities to help them improve by anticipating their needs or working to remove the obstacles that might slow delivery of program initiatives.
- Establish and improve the Product Design Practice and associated tools, processes, people and systems.
- Lead the business through significant change initiatives and contribute to thought leadership to establish a transformation mindset.

**About You**

You love being the glue of a team and are motivated, upbeat, customer and team centric. You have experience and evidence in translating product design strategy and process into reality ensuring maximum value from development. You will have extensive experience in product design roles in either B2B or B2BC SaaS offerings. In addition to this:

- +8 years working full-time in product design, UX or interaction design
- +3 years experience managing and leading other designers
- Comfortable working at the strategic level with experience developing UX/UI strategy that connects directly to commercial outcomes.
- Strong experience working collaboratively with PMs and engineers to deliver end-to-end product design, from ideation to production.
- Strong experience leading reports to improve the way they work, to empower them to work more collaboratively with PMs and engineers and to efficiently deliver end-to-end product design, from ideation to production.
- Able to easily articulate the ‘why’, and leading discussions around your process, explorations, and conclusions.
- Able to demonstrate key design skills in order to help and advise designers, and help out as an individual contributor on occasion when required. (Put plainly, you’re not afraid to lead a workshop or jump on the tools when required to do so.)
