**Introduction to The Centre for Precision Fermentation and Sustainability**:
The Centre for Precision Fermentation and Sustainability (PreFerS) is a research program hosted by the Illinois Advanced Research Center at Singapore Ltd. (Illinois ARCS). The program aims to develop advanced fundamental sciences and technologies to implement fermentation-based production of foods and food ingredients, and also to enhance food security and sustainability in Singapore, particularly addressing the micronutrient food insecurity through precision fermentation.

**About This Role**:
As the (Assistant) Lab Manager at Illinois ARCS, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the day-to-day operations of our research laboratories. You will be responsible for ensuring the efficient functioning of lab facilities, managing resources, and promoting a culture of safety, collaboration, and excellence. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to research initiatives and support the development of transformative technologies.

**Key Responsibilities**:
**Facilities Management**:

- Oversee the day-to-day operations of laboratory facilities, including maintenance of equipment, cleanliness, organization and inventory management.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits of lab facilities to ensure all laboratory activities comply with safety protocols and regulations, including handling and disposal of hazardous materials.

**Equipment Maintenance**:

- Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOP) to optimize lab workflows, enhance efficiency and ensure quality control.
- Establish and manage maintenance schedules, troubleshoot equipment issues, and facilitate repairs to ensure uninterrupted functionality.
- Serve as a liaison with external vendors, service providers, and regulatory agencies to facilitate equipment servicing, repairs and compliance-related matters.

**Inventory Management**:

- Maintain inventory records and coordinate the procurement of laboratory supplies, consumables, and equipment as needed to support research activities, adhering to budgetary constraints and project timelines.

**Budget Planning**:

- Assist in the development and management of laboratory budgets, which includes forecasting expenses and identifying cost-saving opportunities.

**Training and Supervision**:

- Train and mentor laboratory personnel on proper laboratory techniques, safety procedures, and use of specialized equipment.

**Collaboration**:

- Foster collaboration and communication among researchers, scientists, faculty and staff to support their experimental needs and facilitate the execution of research projects.

**Documentation and Reporting**:

- Keep precise records of laboratory operations, such as equipment manuals, safety protocols, and inventory documentation.

Produce necessary reports and documentation as required for regulatory and funding agency requirements.
**Continuous Improvement**:

- Stay abreast of advancements in laboratory technology, instrumentation, and best practices, and recommend innovative solutions to enhance research capabilities.
- Participate in strategic planning and decision-making processes related to the expansion and improvement of lab infrastructure and capabilities.

**Research and Development**:

- Lead a research project within the PreFerS programme.

**Qualifications**:

- Degree in a relevant field (e.g., science, engineering, or related discipline). Advanced degree is preferred.
- Prior experience in laboratory management or a related role, preferably in an academic or research environment.
- Strong leadership abilities with a demonstrated track record of effectively managing teams and fostering a culture of collaboration, safety and excellence.
- In-depth knowledge of laboratory operations, including equipment maintenance, procurement process, inventory management, budget management and safety protocols.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements and compliance standards governing laboratory operations (e.g., bio safety, chemical safety, radiation safety).
- Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Proactive, solution-oriented mindset with the ability to prioritize tasks, multi-task, and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
