Avian & Exotic Specialist

**The Role**
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Thorough medical examinations: Conduct thorough physical examinations to assess the overall health and identify any abnormalities in exotic patients.
- Perform and interpret diagnostic testing: Performing and interpreting diagnostic tests, such as blood tests, radiographs, and collaborating with our ultrasonographers and imaging team if advanced imaging is required.
- Plan and execute appropriate treatment: Developing treatment plans and overseeing the team to ensure treatments are carried out appropriately, for both outpatients and inpatients.
- Surgical procedures: Perform surgical procedures as indicated for exotic animals. Collaborate with our anaesthesia team to administer appropriate anaesthesia and analgesia for exotic patients.
- Preventative care: Administering vaccinations, providing nutritional and husbandry advice.
- Emergency care: Responding to exotic animal emergencies directly or via our 24/7 emergency team
- Behavioural consultations may be required: for example, feather-plucking in birds or barbering in rodents
- Administrative tasks: Maintain detailed and accurate medical records for all patients, ensuring compliance with clinic protocols and regulatory requirements. Contribute to department protocols and policies as required.
- Commitment to continuous learning: Stay updated with advancements in exotic animal medicine through ongoing education and professional development.
