Roles & Responsibilities

Rakuten is a global Internet and e-commerce company, with over 1.3 billion registered users worldwide. Our e-commerce platform is the largest of its kind in Japan and among the world's largest by sales. Rakuten has many subsidiaries, including Rakuten VIKI, Rakuten TV, Rakuten Kobo and Rakuten Viber.

**Responsibilities**:

- Work with the team consisting of product managers and engineers to create pragmatic products.
- Help to design and develop highly available, high performing and consumer-friendly APIs and associated Unit Tests to ensure the quality of code.
- Highly motivated professional with interpersonal skills to ease communication with our global team.
- Enjoy working in a fast-paced and engineering-focused environment.
**Mandatory Qualifications**:

- 5 years of experience in API development with a good understanding of REST API design and practices, and developing Micro-services.
- Bachelor/Master degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related fields
- Experienced in either of the following: 1) Java/Kotlin + spring development & 2) JavaScript/Typescript + Node.js express development
- Experience writing unit and integration test with JUnit or Jest
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience in backend database/storage technologies such as Relational (such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc) and NoSQL (such as MongoDB, Cassandra)
**Desired Qualifications**:

- Interest in Front-end web development with modern frameworks (React, Vue, Svelte)
- Experience with building High Performance and High Availability APIs
- Familiarity with UNIX command-line
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience with CI/CD tooling (e.g. TeamCity, Jenkins, CircleCI, Travis)
