
Marine Superintendent

Reporting to the Head of Department, the Marine Superintendent’s role is to ensure that safe and smooth operations of managed vessels are carried out and in compliance to all international rules and regulations.
1) Vessel Operations Oversight - To manage and supervise the operational activities of assigned tanker vessels, ensuring compliance with company policies, industry regulations and international standards.
2) Safety and Compliance - Implement and uphold stringent safety protocols and regulatory compliance measures.
3) Emergency Response - Providing guidance and support to vessel crews on emergency situations and collaborate with relevant authorities for swift and effective resolution.
4) To perform your duties diligently and to professionally handle the associated responsibilities to the best and support the Manager and Head of the Department.
5) To implement and maintain the Safety Management System on board vessels.
6) To look after and ensure to support the safe ship operations on board company managed vessels.
7) To monitor cargo and navigation operations of the fleet.
8) To carry out shipboard and shore audits for Company's SMS & ISPS Compliance and to maintain the highest standards of safety at sea.
9) To maintain vessel required certificates as per department guidelines.
10) To assist vessels to prepare for Oil Major Vetting inspections, PSC and Flag State and Charterers inspections. To arrange for Oil Major and Class etc. inspections timely as required by operators and charterers.
11) Implement preventive measures against marine casualty and pollution.
12) Management of day to day ship operations, safety and health.
13) Implement and monitor measures for prevention of marine and air pollution.
14) Monitor and provide navigational information to vessels.
15) Monitor ship performance and KPI's closely and provide guidance to achieve the best outcome.
16) Ensure adherence to maritime regulations, classification society rules and industry standards ensuring that vessels comply with international conventions such as SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM Code and Company’s SMS requirements.
17) Monitor vessels cargo information, plans and cargo performance.
18) Oversee vessel insurance and P & I requirements.
19) Ensure monitoring processes needed for the quality and environmental management system are established, implemented and maintained.
20) Give and solicit feedback on risks, hazards, new opportunities and technologies for system improvement and safe performance. Report on the performance of the quality and environmental management system and any need for improvement.
21) Ensure the promotion of awareness of customer requirements throughout the organization.
22) Assimilation of requisite data for quality and environmental systems.
23) Control documents in relation to the system.
24) Assimilate data and prepare for the Management Committee for continuous improvement of the system.
25) To aim for maintaining good customer relationship and a high level of customer satisfaction. To interact professionally with vessel owners, charterers, classification societies and regulatory authorities.
26) Maintain professional and cordial relationship within the department and with other departments to create a synergetic workplace.
27) Monitor vessels expenses budget for cost
- effective solutions without compromising on safety or quality.
**JOB REQUIREMENTS**
**1) Qualifications and Experience**
a) Degree in Nautical Science qualification or equivalent.
b) Master Unlimited Class 1 Certificate of Competency.
c) At least 2 years of sailing experience as Master Mariner on board Gas Carriers.
d) Experience in carriage and handling of Ammonia Cargo is a must.
e) Adequate sailing experience on board Product Tankers.
2) Possess sound knowledge to SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW, MLC, ISM Code, ISPS Code, SIRE 2.0, Flag State Rules (including US, Japan) and Regulations etc. and other various codes and conventions as applicable to Crude Tankers, Product Tankers, Chemical Tankers, and Gas carriers etc. and hands on experiences as well.
3) Possess good knowledge of ISO 9001, 14001 & 45001 as applicable to the marine industry with regards to safe ship operations, pollution prevention and QMS.
4) In-depth understanding of international maritime regulations and industry standards, including ISM, ISPS, and MARPOL.
5) Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with internal stakeholders, vessel crews and regulatory bodies.
6) Strong analytical skills to assess operational data, identify trends and implement strategic improvements.
7) Proven leadership qualities with the ability to inspire and motivate teams towards achieving operational excellence.
8) Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex issues, have problem solving skills and make sound decisions under pressure.
