Reporting to our VP of Global Employment Law, based in San Jose, the APAC & India Employment Legal Counsel will become part of the Global Employment Legal Team and be part of the Asia Regional Leadership team, expected to work closely with global and regional HR teams (i.e., People Business Partners, Talent Acquisition and APJ People Services), Employee Relations team, other Legal teams (Corporate, Company Secretary and Compliance and Investigations), Contingent Workforce Management team and most importantly, our business stakeholders.
Acting as Employment Counsel for the APAC & India region, this role will provide real-time guidance and support to the regional stakeholders for litigation strategy, change and culture management, restructuring, employee grievances, employee related policy work while implementing programs and processes, enabling the Company to be an employer of choice, attracting and retaining our talent in a healthy, highly diverse and inclusive environment, with employees feeling positive, recognized and rewarded for peak performance.
**Responsibilities
We are looking for an exceptional lawyer with experience supporting the Asia Pacific and India regions to join our Global Employment Legal team, ideally located with our APJ leadership team, in Singapore.
The incumbent should have at least 10 post-qualified years of legal experience (PQE) in a well-known law firm, preferably with at least 5 years of in-house employment legal experience, knowledgeable of at least 5 countries in the Asia Pacific region, with a proven track record of experience in Australia, Japan, Korea and India.
Responsibilities include having to manage a broad spectrum of Employment Law and Employee Relations related matters, ranging from advising our hiring teams on restrictive covenants, our APJ People Services team on employee-related queries and employment documentation, and an excellent track record of partnering with regional and global People Business People (PBP/HR) and Employee Relations teams on strategic business plans, performance management and employee grievances. The role will also require partnering with the Corporate Compliance and Investigations team on a host of compliance-related matters in the region.
The incumbent should have the ability to advise our business and PBP groups through contentious employee matters, litigation, proactive risk management, excellent written English skills (i.e., ability to amend employment contracts, and other employee related documents and policies with ease). M&A experience would be preferred. Incumbent must be reliable, highly responsive, commercial and practical with their advice and counsel.
**Qualifications
- Law Degree and professional qualifications in Singapore (or equivalent in an APJ country). At least 10 years PQE, preferably with at least 5 years of in-house regional Employment Legal experience with a proven track record of advising on matters in ANZ, Korea, Japan and India.
- Proven track record of leadership and ability to influence a broad range of stakeholders, including the highest levels of management.
- Demonstrated understanding of HR Business Partner/People Partner Operational processes/practices including organizational design, talent strategy, global mobility, restructuring, performance management, employee separations, change management, executive coaching and relationship building.
- High emotional intelligence and strong interpersonal skills and the ability to present to senior executives in the region, including HQ VP and SVP executives.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Fluency in a second language within the region preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate well with others, lead cross-functional initiatives and project teams across multiple countries, diverse cultures and language capabilities.
- Ability to create training content and deliver enablement training.
- Ability to work flexible hours in order to partner with global teams.
