**Project Title: A study of music scores from the Singapore Police Force Band collection (currently in the Private Collection of the National Archives of Singapore) as musical heritage in Singapore **.

Project Introduction:
This project seeks to study a recent collection of music scores from the Second Straits Settlement Police Band (Singapore Police Force Band today) now housed at the National Archives of Singapore (NAS).

This aim of this project is:
To convert individual instrumental parts in the music scores in NAS into a full-orchestral scores and digital-audio realization resource; To study the soundscape in this audio-realisation to understand the curatorial rationale for this selection of repertoire by the Straits Settlement Police Band before 1942; When and where this repertoire would have been performed, and To evaluate this repertoire as musical heritage in Singapore prior to 1942 through the Straits Settlement Police Band.

**Requirements**:
Essential
- Read and perform from orchestral music scores
- Well-versed with Sibelius software, PhotoScore & NotateMe for transcribing individual music parts into a digital score and compiling them into a full orchestral score to create an audio realisation.
- Music analysis skills related to musical instrumentation, instrumental configuration in the Wind Band Ensemble.
- Experienced participation in conducting Wind Ensembles.
- A first degree in musicology/music technology or related areas
- Ability to conduct and write literature reviews and research reports
- Prior exposure to research methodology, and researching through archival documents, music software programmes
- Effective organizational skills, especially in managing reference libraries and research data
- Ability to support and write sections in academic writing and technical reports
- Strong written and communication skills in English
- Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision

Preferred
- Prior job experience as Research Assistant or in a research capacity in similar projects
- Experience with music technology, music software programmes, print to digital audio conversion experience and interest in archival research
- Experienced participation in the Wind Band ensemble.

**Responsibilities**
- Using Sibelius software, PhotoScore, NotateMe and AudioScore Music for conversion of individual music parts into full orchestral scores and digital audio-files.
- Music analysis skills related to musical instrumentation, instrumental configuration in the Wind Band Ensemble as well as instrumental part-checking both individually and orchestral configuration.
- Collect data, assist in data analysis and reporting of results
- Data management and transcription
- Data entry, data cleanup and edit write-ups
- Conduct literature searches and write reports
- Manage book publications and journals
- Manage research data and keep up-to-date research records and minutes of meetings
- Coordinate research activities of Reporting Officers
- Support the research team in research efforts
- Assist the Principal Investigator with other administrative and duties as assigned
