**Position Overview**:
**As a Peatland Conservation and Restoration Specialist, you will play a crucial role in our efforts to conserve and restore peatland ecosystems in Southeast Asia. Your expertise in implementing the VERRA REDD+ methodologies and your experience in generating carbon credits will be instrumental in achieving our climate goals. You will be part of a dedicated team that works closely with local communities, government agencies, and international partners to create sustainable solutions for peatland preservation and combatting climate change.**
**Position Responsibilities**:
This position will work directly under the Chief Development Officer of ClearWind, and as a core member of the ClearWind technical development team, leading the peat focal area of the team on the following areas:
- Peatland Conservation and Restoration Planning: Lead the design and development of comprehensive conservation and restoration plans for peatland ecosystems in Southeast Asia, aligning with VERRA REDD+ methodologies.
- Carbon Credit Generation: Implement robust methodologies for calculating and verifying carbon emissions reductions achieved through peatland conservation and restoration efforts, leading to the generation of high-quality carbon credits.
- Project Implementation: Oversee and coordinate the implementation of on-the-ground conservation and restoration activities, ensuring adherence to project timelines and budget.
- Data Collection and Analysis: Gather relevant data and conduct thorough analysis to monitor the progress and effectiveness of peatland conservation initiatives, making data-driven decisions to improve project outcomes.
- Capacity Building: Conduct training sessions and workshops to build local communities' capacity in peatland conservation techniques and sustainable land use practices.
- Compliance and Reporting: Ensure compliance with relevant environmental regulations and standards, and prepare timely and accurate project reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Research and Innovation: Stay updated with the latest developments in peatland conservation, REDD+ methodologies, and carbon market trends, contributing to the organization's innovative approach to sustainability.
**Eligibility Requirements**:
- Bachelor's or Master’s in ecology, environmental science, natural resource management, or a related field.
- Proven experience in peatland conservation and restoration projects, with a focus on engaging with indigenous communities in Southeast Asia.
- Familiarity with the carbon industry, carbon sequestration projects, and climate change mitigation strategies in peatlands.
- Strong knowledge of peatland ecology, carbon dynamics, and the impacts of human activities on peatland ecosystems.
- Excellent communication and cross-cultural skills, with the ability to build relationships and engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Project management experience, including planning, budgeting, and reporting.
- Proficiency in using GIS and other relevant tools for data analysis and mapping considered an asset
- Commitment to sustainable practices and inclusive conservation approaches that consider the needs and perspectives of indigenous communities.
- Fluency in English and proficiency in local languages commonly spoken in the Southeast Asia region.
- Regional experience across Southeast Asia is considered a distinct asset.
