UCT has launched an ambitious Industry 4.0 initiative as a part of its overall Digital Transformation goals. In support of this initiative, the Industry 4.0 Engineer position will play a central roles in understanding the current state and proposing, devising, implementing and supporting all projects and technologies that fall under the banner of Industry 4.0 initiatives.

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Engage business counterparts to understand business-goals and conceive of Industry 4.0 solutions that will work in harmony with each other to serve those goals
- Contribute to and management of IoT strategy and roadmap for selected areas.
- Support testing and development of IoT potential solutions before regional deployment.
- Support analytical processes, like machine learning in use within proof-of-technology concepts to deployed IoT projects.
- Monitor and report progress with metrics for IoT projects diffused across the region and proactively manage challenges or constraints.
- Create support documentation for all systems covered by the Industry 4.0 platform.

**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**:

- Computer programming and network security knowledge, project management, knowledge of IoT sensor technology used in manufacturing environment, EX. Vision, vibration, change management, MS Office.
- Ability to implement solutions using sound engineering principles that provide value to production environment
- Deliver solid projects to production floor with limited re-work (functional requirements well-defined)
- Competence in understanding Signal Processing and the ability to solve several problems using Signal Processing techniques is crucial
- Identify opportunities for IoT technology improvements and implement throughout appropriate manufacturing sites.
- Strong communication skills and consensus building (Work effectively with IoT plant leads to achieve most positive results possible)
- Drives outcomes with strong project plan development including specific action plans, key milestones and output. Exposure to Agile project management methodology
- Knowledge of manufacturing process flow and line/plant layout
- Identify process best practices, convey proposals and develop appropriate standards and methods
- Experience in identifying new/existing customer/business requirements/use cases.

**Educational/Certification Requirement**:

- Bachelors degree in engineering or engineering-related areas: electrical, controls, systems, computer science, data science or other equivalent degree with the required experience.
- Certifications in IoT technologies is a definite plus.

**Experience Requirement**:

- 5+ years experience in manufacturing equipment controls, network design, embedded systems, machine learning and/or data engineering with a focus on the automotive industry w/ Bachelors degree
- 7+ years experience with relevant responsibilities
