**Job Purpose**
- To develop staff capacity, and improve student learning outcomes, through the development and
implementation of an instructional coaching model.
- To engage and motivate staff to develop their pedagogies beyond their current practice.
- To support the instructional development of all teachers and build the skills needed to deliver the curriculum mandated by the school.
- To assist teachers with the planning of curriculum, the development of differentiated lessons, and the selection of best practices to meet the needs of their students with a focus on Language Arts (Literacy) and in particular the Reader’s and Writer’s workshop models.
- Develop the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and practices of all staff through a variety of targeted professional development.
- Foster a culture of high expectations and standards of pedagogy.
- To uphold the Lasallian values of the school and serve with the mission, vision, and values of the school in mind.
**Key Responsibilities**
- To facilitate coaching cycles with academic staff to build professional capacity and improve student learning outcomes.
- To assist teachers with resources, materials, tools, information, etc. to support classroom instruction and planning, including developing new resources.
- Support teachers and administrators in using data to improve instruction on all levels.
- Engage teachers in improving teaching and learning through the schools chosen coaching model which is in line with the Instructional Coaching Group model.
- Create and develop resources that will help to implement and sustain the instructional coaching model within the school.
- Model best practice and world-class, research-based, pedagogies.
- In Collaboration with AP Curriculum, Lead professional learning on pedagogical practices to new and experienced teachers.
- In Collaboration with AP Curriculum, Lead parent workshops on pedagogy and curriculum in particular Language Arts and the Reader’s and Writer’s Workshop models.
- Work with the SLT to ensure a high standard of teaching and learning is evident in every classroom.
- Implementation of a coaching model that inspires teachers to grow and develop their practice to improve student learning.
**Specific Tasks and Duties**
**Curriculum and Pedagogy & Assessment and Reporting**
- Help staff to better understand the curriculum taught within the school.
- Coach staff to improve pedagogy through a coaching cycle that involves goal setting, observation, reflection, and action.
- Lead and facilitate professional development on curriculum and pedagogy where appropriate.
- Assist teachers in creating materials that are in alignment with the curriculum, particularly, the Language Arts curriculum.
- Provide teachers resources related to instruction and curriculum with a focus on Language Arts.
- Assist teachers with designing instructional decisions based on assessment data when requested.
- Assist teachers with specific classroom activities when requested.
- Provide assistance in researching instructional and/or curriculum issues.
- Assist teachers in aligning their teaching with appropriate standards, curriculum, and assessments.
- Model effective, differentiated instruction when requested.
- Provide support for classroom motivation and management strategies.
- Use student data to improve teaching and learning.
- Provide support in analyzing student assessment data.
**Collaboration and Relationship Management**
- Build, foster, and sustain professional relationships with all members of staff, in particular, the relationship of coach and teacher.
- Work with the SLT to grow an instructional coaching model within the school.
- Work with the SLT towards reaching strategic goals as set out in the Elementary School Strategic Plan (ESIP).
**Resource Management**
- Work with SLT to find, create and deliver professional development opportunities.
- Work with SLT to identify areas of need for professional development.
- Work with SLT to find and source resources that may improve teaching and learning within the school.
- Work within the confines of the budget set out by the Principal.
**Communication**
- Communicate with teachers, effectively and in a timely manner, about matters pertaining to their coaching cycle.
- Promote and celebrate the good pedagogical practices at the school with all stakeholders in the school community.
- Be able to build coaching relationships through strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Be able to articulate to teachers and the school community how the Language Arts curriculum works and benefits student learning.
**Self-Evaluation and Quality Assurance**
- Participate in the school’s Professional Reflection and Development (PRD) process as a reflective practitioner, and also provide a role model to others in this process.
