Position Summary

The Accounting team manages all aspects of accounting and tax for the APAC region, including US GAAP and local statutory controllership, accounting processes like Treasury and Fixed Assets, and transactional processes such as AR, AP and Payroll.

As APAC Accounting Manager, you will be responsible for managing specialized accounting processes including but not limited to Intercompany, Inventory, Fixed Assets and Leases for the APAC region, and extending globally. You will collaborate with global/regional Finance teams and other business stakeholders to drive continued excellence and scalability in our processes. In addition, as Illumina continues to grow globally into new and existing markets, you will lead or participate in business expansion initiatives and other strategic projects.

This is a newly created position based in our regional headquarters in Singapore.

Illumina Singapore is Illumina’s only manufacturing facility outside of the US, and the Asia Pacific headquarters for numerous business functions. It was first established in 2008 with ten employees and a 38,000 square foot space. Today, we have grown to an employee strength of more than 1,300, expanded to ten times the original space, with manufacturing output contributing to almost 50% of Illumina’s global topline revenue. Job duties include but are not limited to:

- Manage operations and monthly financial close relating to specialized accounting processes, including ensuring all transactions are properly recorded, reviewing journal entries, account balance reconciliations and report preparation
- Participate in the ongoing development/establishment of accounting policies and procedures and operational strategies including the review and implementation of process and system changes
- Ensure compliance with internal control policies in a SOX environment
Lead cross-functional projects as requested, including design of end-to-end processes, working with Finance BI and/or GIS to design, test and implement systems, evaluate and advise on appropriate accounting treatment
- Recruit top talent to the Accounting team and mentor team members, helping them reach their peak potential; foster a culture of continuous improvement complete with benchmarks for measuring successful performance
- Other duties/special projects as assigned, including but not limited to:

- Lead annual statutory audit and quarter reviews by the internal/external auditors including preparation of supporting schedules and maintenance of accounting policies and procedures
- Participate in the maintenance of internal control ensuring accurate presentation of financial statements and safeguarding company assets, recommending additional controls, as necessary

Preferred Background:

- At least 10 years of accounting/finance experience preferably in MNCs and/or Big 4 firms with proficiency in US GAAP and IFRS
- People management experience preferred
- Life science and/or manufacturing industries accounting experience a plus
- Proven experience in managing accounting processes for APAC region; including balancing global systems/processes with local country-specific regulations
Prior experience in SAP or Oracle
- Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management and external agencies
- Ability to make decisions, handle unforeseen issues and effectively deal with ambiguity
- Strong communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills
- Proven track record in driving projects and process improvement initiatives
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting or Finance
- CPA is a plus
