Singapore BUSINESS INSIDER ASIA PTE. LTD. Full time

Insider Inc. launched a global news bureau in Singapore in January 2021. We’re a team that thrives on umping on the biggest news of the day and building an operation from the ground up. We’re looking for an experienced editor to help us build a tech and business desk who has a knack for telling stories in a conversational way and is passionate about the world of business news. This is a full-time position based in Singapore.

Your mission will be to cover the biggest business stories in the world and to drive our coverage of the tech scene in Asia. You’ll be assigning and editing stories about major global companies (Amazon, Facebook, Apple, Tesla, Tencent, etc), business personalities, labor and the economy, and more. You can expect to be covering stories from our business verticals, including tech, finance, strategy, transportation, healthcare, and retail. We’ll also ask you to be the point person on stories about China’s tech giants and the startup scene in countries like Vietnam, Indonesia, and Korea.

The editor will report directly to the bureau chief and will manage a growing team. On a daily basis, you will be tasked with approving reporters’ pitches, assigning stories, and running edits. We’ll ask you to help us identify new areas for growth, recruit talent for the desk, and contribute your own writing. You’ll also be tasked with commissioning stories from writers across the APAC region.

The reporters you’ll manage write 1-3 breaking news stories a day in the 300- to 500-word range, and work on news analyses and features in the background. The editor should be comfortable regularly handling this mixture of story edits and juggling multiple responsibilities at one time.

The ideal editor will:

- Have several years experience writing and editing about tech and/or business
- Have a strong understanding of the major players and the up-and-comers in the space
- Have the ability to write and edit quickly and accurately
- Want to work on small team and be excited by the prospect of building a new desk
- Have a finely tuned story sense: You know how to assign stories and discover angles that generate conversations
- Be deadline driven and able to assign stories with an appropriate word count and scope
- Have experience writing headlines and working in a metrics-driven environment
- Exhibit a sense of urgency around the news cycle
- Be an experienced manager who is comfortable leading green talent as well as experienced journalists
- Be eager to write and report themselves, especially while the team is still growing
- Be highly organized
- Have familiarity with social media distribution and SEO
