Job Summary:
Responsible for being the technical support of owned Fugro vessels within the assigned region (APAC, MEI, EU AF, or Americas). Ensures regional availability of marine technical assurance. Assists in the establishing and execution of maintenance and repair work scopes in line with the set global standards.
Regionally:
Being the technical support to the vessel management team consisting of Captain, Chief engineer, Vessel Manager and Marine Assurance Officer. Responsible for establishing and executing maintenance and repair work scopes. Assists the Regional Fleet Manager in technical vessel inspections.
Globally:
About the role:
1. Technical Advisor:
Collaborates with the Chief Engineer on technical matters.
Advises the Vessel Manager on the technical status of the vessel.
Advises the Vessel Manager on the technical budget requirements of the vessel.
Ensures maintenance such as overhaul of engines, is properly specified, assists procurement on the tender process and advises on the bid tabulation for the final vendor selection.
2. Maintenance System:
Responsible for an up to date planned maintenance system. Reviews all planned, and repair work scopes reported and adjusts the planned maintenance program in collaboration with the Maintenance and reliability engineers as required.
3. Maintenance & Repairs:
Continuously ensures maintenance and repair work scopes are clearly specified for tender purposes.
Technical spokesperson for the vessel towards 3rd party service providers on technical matters. Where maintenance or repairs are done ashore the decision taker on minimum required scope.
4. Emergency Readiness:
Ensures up to date emergency docking plans and documents
5. Vessel Assurance:
Responsible for an annual technical review of the vessel, reporting the technical state of the vessel and its equipment, including completeness of documentation, obsolesces prospects or issues.
In collaboration with the Chief Engineer, conducts Technical Investigations and defines Root Causes for Technical Downtime events of the vessel and ensures that lessons learned are implemented.
Executes vessel inspections upon request of the Regional Fleet Manager.
6. Crew Management:
Reviews performance of Master and Chief Engineers and provides the VSI with input.
6. OH&S Management:
The employee is responsible to carry out work as per IMS procedures, report all HSSE incidents and actively participate in all engagements as requested by the employer.
KPIs:
- Vessel Reliability target, as agreed on an annual basis, is met. Vessel Maintenance System
- All maintenance of all vessel equipment clearly, efficiently defined (cost and uptime conscious), in line with regulatory requirements including related parts, manuals and drawings as such that all vessels do not have any Non-Conformities related to maintenance definition. - To have up to date technical specifications for major maintenance and repairs as such that a tender document can always be made on short notice.
- To provide a tender document well in time prior a special survey window. Vessel Assurance

About you:
- Education: Bachelor Mechanical Engineering / Chief Engineer Unlimited Working experience
- Work experience: 3 years previous experience as Chief Engineer and or Technical Superintendent preferred. Management experience
- License/ certification/ qualification: Training matrix + Valid Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (BOSIET) Languages & Proficiency
Physical Working Requirements
- Ability to board vessels, enter confined spaces with limited visibility and have the ability to climb up and down stairs and/or ladders of varying heights to complete the job or inspections.
- Physically and medically qualified to wear required personal protective equipment.
- Ability to routinely use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, etc.
- Occasionally the work environment may be loud.
- Must be able to work indoors and outdoors under all weather conditions. The position occasionally requires work in outside weather conditions, including rain and extreme heat, near moving mechanical parts and includes occasional exposure to wet and/or hum
