Project Title: License to Travel: Singapore as an Urban Model and exploring geographies of intra-Asian travel [RI 7/24 DKD]

Project Introduction: This research aims to examine, over the years, how Singapore urban (govt) agencies and private urban developers and solution providers have been able to create a smart, sustainable and green urban model for other cities (in Asia and elsewhere) to emulate. Theoretically, We want to explore the idea(s) of urban policy mobility and fast-policy transfer between cities in Asia (specifically looking at intra-Asian travel) and Singapore's popularity as a sustainable and resilient (urban) model for other cities to learn - in an increasingly precarious environment of climate change and (un)sustainable practices. Secondly, this project will explore how Singapore also learns from these policy travels, local challenges, and interactions and keep updating the Singapore model to remain relevant and contemporary.

Requirements:

- Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, specializing in Geography, Sociology, Urban Studies, or a related field
- Proficiency in academic writing skills in English language
- Experience in qualitative research
- Able to handle fieldwork / ethnographic research
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to independently conduct interviews in Singapore
- Good interpersonal and oral communication skills

Preferred
- Proficiency in computer software packages (e.g. SPSS, data analysis software, Basic GIS software)
- Positive attitude towards learning and doing research
- Ability to manage project-related administrative work

Responsibilities:

- Prepare research reports including literature reviews, academic writing, admin and library work.
- Assist with data collection, interviewing, fieldwork, analysis, and other research-related activities.
- Liaise with research participants and other stakeholders, arrange meetings, prepare schedules, etc.
- Assist in organizing events, talks, seminars, etc. in the Department
- Other tasks as assigned by the Principal Investigator.
