The global privacy training operation team aims to help all TikTok employees improve their privacy awareness and deepen their understanding of privacy, and provide professional "privacy by design" practical training for international product lines to ensure that employees in different positions and responsibilities can obtain the required privacy in a timely manner. At the same time, a wealth of online and offline activities such as privacy weeks and salon sharing are carried out, and high-quality publicity channels such as privacy clubs and privacy observatories are created to enrich daily publicity and implementation, and create a "privacy first" cultural atmosphere.
We are seeking a Researcher specialising in Privacy, Data Protection, and more generally on Data/AI Governance. The primary responsibility is to analyse the latest developments in related areas, including but not limited to new legislation, public policy-making, breakthroughs in privacy-enhancing technologies and other related realms. Based on the study of these developments, the role involves producing industry-oriented work to support and guide the sustainable development of business practices.
Main Responsibilities
1. Reach a comprehensive and adequate understanding of Bytedance’s products and services, analysing their strengths, weaknesses, blind spots, focal points for optimisation from various perspectives. Engage in constructive interactions between research outcomes and product development and optimisation.
2. Keep abreast of international policies and legislative dynamics, capable of critically and reflectively participating in public/academic debates, dialogues, while aligning the underlying normative logics and ideas with product/service development.
3. Support and participate in all stages of the research process, including information collection and integration, problem framing, project coordination and design, argument and evidence support, presentation & discussion at academic conferences, writing academic papers, and ultimately putting your research outputs into practice.
4. Engage and interact effectively with product/service development, business partners, legal teams, and colleagues of diverse backgrounds, establishing effective communication channels. Acquire necessary research ideas, directions, and resources while providing valuable output.
**Qualifications**:
2. Proficient in English, capable of fluent professional communication and academic/public writing.
3. Deep understanding and/or practical experience in legal, technical, and social issues related to privacy and data protection, familiar with EU data protection laws (GDPR, EUDPR, ePrivacy, LED, etc.). Ideally possess the foundational knowledge of EU (and other countries/regions) digital governance legislation since 2018.
4. Ability and willingness to participate in top conferences and academic events as a speaker or panelist, and to publish peer-reviewed papers and reports.
5. Good team collaboration, communication skills, and self-motivation. Capable of working under pressure and effectively in a diverse and inclusive environment.
