[What the role is]

This is a contract position until 28 Feb 2026 as a Research Engineer in the School of Engineering.

**[What you will be working on]**

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

- Conduct research and development activities to explore new technologies, processes, and methodologies in the field of mechanical engineering.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including electrical engineers, software developers, and lecturers to integrate mechanical solutions into multidisciplinary projects.
- Utilize CAD/CAM software and simulation tools to model, analyze, and optimize mechanical designs for performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
- Conduct feasibility studies, literature reviews, and technical investigations to identify research opportunities and address engineering challenges.
- Stay current with emerging trends, advancements, and best practices in mechanical engineering through literature review, conferences, and professional development activities.
- Work closely with external partners, vendors, and academic institutions to leverage expertise, resources, and collaboration opportunities for research projects.
- Document research findings, experimental procedures, and design specifications in technical reports, presentations, and publications.

**[What we are looking for]**
- Minimum Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Minimum of 2 - 4 years of experience in mechanical engineering, product or system development, with a focus on research and development.
- Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (e.g., Solid Edge, NX Cam, Solid Works) and finite element analysis (FEA) tools.
- Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, materials science, and manufacturing processes.
- Experience with rapid prototyping techniques, such as 3D printing and CNC machining.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex engineering problems and propose innovative solutions.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Passion for research, innovation, and pushing the boundaries of mechanical engineering.
