**The Role and Responsibilities**
The role of AVP, Underwriting and Claims (UWC), involves serving as a senior member of the UWC leadership team across Asia, contributing to regional strategies and initiatives that enhance the company's underwriting and claims functions. In addition to this broader leadership responsibility, the position has specific accountability for delivering high-quality underwriting and claims assessments and supporting all key underwriting and claims-related activities in the Indian market. The AVP also plays a critical role in building a robust business model for PLRe in India, while collaborating with other functions to execute strategies that strengthen the company's presence and develop a strong business pipeline.
The detailed responsibilities are as below
- Provide strategic insights and market knowledge to PLRe Asia, enabling robust business development in the Indian market based on strong understanding of Indian market practises. This includes full involvement in underwriting and claims for protection products such as Life, Critical Illness (CI), medical expense, and group business, as well as supporting key underwriting-related marketing and pricing activities.
- Actively contribute to building Pacific Life Re's profile in India by fostering strong relationships across the region and participating in market visits alongside other staff members.
- Serve as a senior member of the India Quotes Deal Team, working closely with other team members to drive the growth of PLRe's presence in the Indian market. Together with the Deal Team, be responsible for developing and implementing the India market strategy, collaborating on strategic opportunities, aligning efforts to achieve shared goals, and contributing to the overall success of the market.
- Collaborate with UnderwriteMe (PLRe's underwriting & Claims technology solutions company) to deliver relevant solutions to clients in India, increasing PLRe's and UnderwriteMe's presence in innovation and data-driven areas.
- Stay updated on innovation and data developments in the Indian market, such as rule engines, predictive underwriting, and data analytics initiatives, and identify opportunities for PLRe to offer valuable solutions.
- Keep abreast of regulatory changes in the Indian market, influencing insurance companies to address issues collaboratively, and offer feasible solutions and recommendations to clients.
- Represent PLRe at industry events, meetings, and when addressing regulatory matters.
- Support client requests related to underwriting guidelines, campaigns, and inquiries, leveraging in-depth market knowledge.
- Participate in client audits, trainings, and visits, including preparation, execution, and reporting.
- Lead, or be prepared to lead, a small team in the future as the business continues to grow in India, with the potential to guide and mentor future team members to support the company's expanding underwriting and claims activities.
- Stay informed on developments in Asian insurance and reinsurance markets to provide leadership and innovative insights to clients in India.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- A degree-level education is required; a medical degree is an added advantage.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in life & health underwriting within an insurance company is essential. Experience in a reinsurance company is also beneficial.
- Recent experience in the Indian market is essential, with a strong understanding of the market's evolution over the last five years and its impact on the industry.
- Strong communication skills are necessary to effectively understand clients' needs and provide appropriate solutions.
- The ability to work efficiently across all levels of staff internally is crucial to maintaining proper workflow and upholding sound risk management standards.
- Adaptability to conduct business across multiple countries and cultures is required.
- Excellent presentation skills to effectively convey complex information to diverse audiences.
- Strong strategic thinking skills to develop and implement effective business strategies for India market
