Oxford Economics, a leading forecasting and consulting firm, is looking to hire an Assistant Economist / Economist, based in Singapore. Reporting to the Lead Economist for Northeast Asia, the economist will be responsible for the macro research coverage and forecasting for two Asian economies, as well as contributing to the broader research objectives of the Asia macro team.Key Responsibilities
- As a primary point economist for Korea and Hong Kong, conduct research on the coverage economies independently and in collaboration with colleagues. This includes literature reviews, analysis of structural and cyclical trends, and the integration of both qualitative and quantitative insights;
- Track and interpret key economic and policy developments, covering data on growth, inflation, trade, fiscal and monetary policy, and financial markets; develop forecasts for coverage economies;
- Communicate analysis clearly to external and internal audiences, including regular publications through the firm’s Global Macro Service (GMS), client presentations, and timely responses to ad-hoc requests;
- Undertake scenario analysis and stress-testing using Oxford Economics’ Global Economic Model (GEM) and econometric tools, assessing the potential impact of shocks and alternative policy settings;
- Collaborate on cross-regional research initiatives with Asia and global economics teams, contributing to thematic projects such as global trade dynamics, supply-chain shifts, or technology-driven shifts in productivity.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- Strong academic education with a BA/ BSc in economics; advanced degree in Economics or a closely related field a plus;
- 1-3 years of relevant experience;
- Exceptional analytical and writing skills, including the ability to explain economic concepts and quantitative results, as well as their implications, to non-specialists;
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
- Ability to work collaboratively across regions;
- Fluency in English is a must, proficiency in Mandarin Chinese / Korean is a plus. Additional language capabilities are valued, as they facilitate engagement with local data sources, stakeholders, and cultural contexts, thereby enriching the relevance and impact of economic analysis.
