**DevOps & Data Engineer - Hummingbird Bioscience**

**ABOUT HUMMINGBIRD BIOSCIENCE**

Hummingbird Bioscience is a data-driven precision biotherapeutics team discovering and developing transformative biologic medicines for hard-to-treat diseases. The Hummingbird Bioscience model combines computational and systems biology and wet lab drug discovery in a multi-disciplinary, collaborative environment spanning initial discovery through clinical development. **ABOUT THE ROLE**

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Design and maintain a centralized data hub of SQL/NoSQL databases of both publicly available and internally generated datasets
- Design and implement ETL processes for data extraction and transformation
- Develop workflows that integrate multiple data processing algorithms to generate summaries and reports
- Provide platform and software support (clarifying and troubleshooting issues) on HPC and AWS for bioinformatics scientists
- Develop and improve the functionality of analytical dashboards
- Aggregate results from multiple analytical pipelines to generate comprehensive reports
- Review existing code base and deployment architecture and support adding functionalities to the pipeline
- Design of cloud environments for secure data storage and deployment of analytical pipelines
- Create documentation to ensure the proper establishment, description and continuity of processes
- As needed undertake data analyses for specific bioinformatics or projects

**ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS**
- Bachelor/Master’s degree in computer science, software engineering, information systems, or equivalent experience in a related field
- Good knowledge of Python programming
- Proficient in developing and maintaining SQL/NoSQLdatabases
- Familiarity in developing workflow pipelines using technologies such as CWL or Nextflow
- Expertise in using Unix operating systems and HPC job schedulers (SLURM)
- Demonstrated ability to containerize tools (docker/singularity)
- Strong communication skills, with a focus on documentation
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with other team members
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders
- Familiarity with AWS cloud services and concepts
- Experience in front-end and back-end software development

**DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS**
- Familiarity with data cleaning, feature engineering and data analysis
- Familiarity with R/Shiny app development
- Familiarity with R and ggplot2 for data visualization
- Knowledge of additional database frameworks
- 1-3 years of relevant experience
- Desire and interest to mentor others to effectively support project tasks
- The ability to work on simultaneous projects, and to adapt to changing priorities with tight deadlines
