Writer & Illustrator

Ribbit.FYI (RFYI) is an explainer brand under OGS. We’re growing our team and are looking for someone who’s interested in finding creative ways to make important information more exciting. If you love thinking of innovative ways to present a point; be it wrangling data into stories, charts, and interactive features or if you’re an avid reader of Vox and The Pudding, or any kind of data journalism — you might be the right person for this job.

We tell stories about people and the world around us, in ways that give our audience something to think about. We aren’t a news site, but we try to stay on top of what’s going on in the world in order to make relevant content for our readers.

Roles and Responsibilities:

- Assist with and initiate research for RFYI’s topics according to the in-house content guidelines
- Script and illustrate short-form social explainers and comics for both editorial and sponsored content
- Identify potential upcoming content opportunities such as festivals and news events, and pitching relevant story concepts (content calendar planning)
- Work with other illustrators/writers and RFYI lead to ensure clarity and readability of each piece of content
- Creates illustrations and webcomics utilising design skills and a good understanding of pacing and and storytelling
- Work directly with other Writers/Illustrators to resolve issues related to concept, design

You should have:

- A good command of written English
- An interest in storytelling (experience with writing short-form content is a plus)
- An ability to adapt to the brand voice of RFYI
- Proficient with Photoshop and Illustrator (After Effects, Premiere Pro and Audition a plus)
- Ability to shape a story with graphics and illustrations
- A tendency to stay up-to-date on world news
- An openness to different perspectives on life and the world
- Sense of humour
- No confirmation bias
- At least one field/topic that you have a strong interest in (and a reasonable knowledge of)
- Some research experience
- Bonus: basic knowledge of data cleaning and organisation in Python (Pandas, Num.py, BeautifulSoup/Selenium, working with APIs) or if you are handy in Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets
