Backend Engineering Intern

Our Platform Team is looking for a backend engineering intern that will be solving problems for the cutting-edge infrastructure behind AI-driven 3D world creation.

At Bifrost, we are building generative engines that allow users to create and control 3D worlds. Our goal is to empower everyone to create limitless 3D worlds and images. Our tool has enabled users to achieve incredible capabilities such as autonomously landing spacecraft on Mars, detecting pirates in the Atlantic Ocean, mapping the world from space, and generating synthetic data to train AI systems 10 times faster.

**Backend Engineering Intern**:
**Your Main Quest**:
Our Platform Engineers glue Bifrost’s software stack together. Aside from the essential ops tasks such as deployment, monitoring, and tooling, we also engage in software development work, from creating robust job orchestration tools, to building 3D asset management solutions.

As an intern, you will have the opportunity to join us at the cutting-edge Here are some of the things you could be doing:

- Create invaluable tools that triple the productivity of our developers
- Give our developers insights into the overall system health, and help them troubleshoot things easily
- Make things run faster and better

Our priority is to provide you with a truly educational experience, so you can expect to do some independent research and self-exploration. However, don't worry - we'll be here to guide you every step of the way, ensuring you make sound technical decisions and produce high-quality code.

**Qualifications**:
This is an internship, so we don't expect you to be a programming whiz (yet). You will be a good fit if:

- You care about **building the right things from day one**. You have a user-centric approach to software development, and you are dedicated to craftsmanship.
- You have some **backend development experience**. It could be in any language, as long as you're comfortable with it and have used it to build projects or solve coding problems.
- You enjoy **solving problems**, especially sparsely documented ones. Here at Bifrost, we often encounter fringe problems that can’t be found on StackOverflow. You’ll have to read source code and man pages, revise concepts from first principles, and have incredible patience.
- You are **eager to learn new things**. We have code written in Python, TypeScript, C#, C++, and more, and our repositories often contain Bash scripts, Makefiles, Nix flakes, and Terraform files. It might sound like a lot, but we'll help you out every step of the way.

**Bonus**:
We often prioritise applicants that have some experience working with the technology that we use. Let us know if you have experience working with:

- Object-oriented languages, such as Java, C#, or Python
- Systems programming languages, such as Golang or Rust
- Cloud technologies on Azure, GCP, or AWS
- Graphics software, such as Unreal Engine, Unity, Blender
