Project Title: Neurocognitive and lifestyle predictors of successful exercise-induced improvements in executive functioning

Project Introduction: Physical inactivity has been shown to negatively input brain health in adults, which has implications for scholarly and work performance as well as prevention of cognitive decline in later-life. However inter-individual variability in the response to exercise currently limits our ability to design effective exercise prescription for optimizing brain health. It is suggested that this variability can be attributed in part, to modifiable factors reflecting the internal exercise dose (e.g., lactate, heart rate variability [HRV]) and the influence of habitual lifestyle behaviours (e.g., diet, sleep), which can independently and cumulatively impact brain health. This project will examine how both physiological, neural, and lifestyle factors moderate the association between high
- and moderate-intensity aerobic exercise on cognition and brain function.

**Requirements**:
We are looking for a motivated Research Assistant interested in exercise neuroscience to help with the above research project, primarily with the recruitment and screening of participants, and collection of data in the laboratory.
- _ Academic qualification_: Minimum bachelor’s degree in sports science, exercise science, health science, or a related field.
- _ Research/work experience:_ Prior research experience as a Research Assistant or Student Research Assistant in exercise physiology or exercise neuroscience domains is desirable.
- _ Desirable skills, interests, and attributes:_
- Good communication skills.
- Can work independently and part of a team.
- Good self-management, responsible, solution oriented.
- Some experience working in an exercise laboratory setting and/or the administration of VO2max testing, lactate and glucose testing, heart rate variability and/or functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) is advantageous.

**Responsibilities**:

- Participant recruitment.
- IRB preparation and management.
- Data collection (including administration of exercise, lactate, heart rate variability, cognitive and non-invasive neuroimaging tests).
- Data entry and assistance with data analysis.
- Other project administrative tasks as assigned by the PI.
