Job Description

The Commis is responsible for the preparation and cooking of food items, as well as the setup and maintenance of the food area. He or she will report directly to the Executive Sous Chef.

Responsibilities

Food Preparation
- Ingredient Preparation: Assist in preparing ingredients such as vegetables, meat, and sauces, ensuring all items are prepped according to the menu and standards.
- Cooking Assistance: Work under the supervision of a head chef or senior kitchen staff to assist in cooking, frying, grilling, or assembling food.
- Portioning: Ensure food is portioned accurately according to company guidelines.

Station Setup & Cleanliness
- Cleaning the Standard: Help clean and sanitize the kitchen area, equipment, and cooking surfaces before, during, and after food preparation to ensure hygiene standards.
- Organize Ingredients: Ensure all necessary ingredients and cooking tools are readily available and neatly arranged.

Menu Execution
- Food Recipes: Follow standardized recipes and preparation methods as instructed, ensuring consistency in food quality and presentation.
- Food Service: Assist in assembling and serving food to customers, ensuring it meets the quality standards set by the senior chef.

Customer Interaction
- Customer Service: Assist with serving food or engaging with customers to ensure satisfaction.
- Handling Orders: Assist in taking orders or passing them to the cooking team to ensure smooth service

Food Safety & Health Regulations
- Adhere to Safety Guidelines: Comply with food safety and health regulations, including proper storage and handling of ingredients.
- Monitor Food Control: Ensure food is cooked to the correct temperature and stored correctly to avoid contamination.

Inventory Management
- Stock Management: Assist in checking inventory levels for ingredients and supplies, helping to order new stock when needed.
- Waste Control: Minimize food waste by following portion control and using leftover ingredients where applicable.

Equipment Maintenance
- Maintain Kitchen Equipment: Ensure the kitchen equipment is clean, in good working order, and used safely.
- Help in Equipment Setup: Assist in setting up and breaking down kitchen equipment, such as grills, fryers, and ovens.

Team Collaboration
- Support Senior Chefs: Get instructions from senior chefs, head chefs, or kitchen supervisors, and work as part of a team.
- Assist Colleagues: Assist other kitchen staff with tasks as needed, including cleaning, organizing, and food preparation.
