Prudential is committed to ongoing progress across the ESG space. It is an area of increasing interest for all stakeholders, including investors and ratings agencies. In 2021, Prudential made more explicit statements regarding ESG including the communication of a new strategic framework and the announcement of new climate change targets and commitments. Further progress is planned for the coming years.

Addressing the double materiality of climate change and nature is a key strategic priority for Prudential and an important ESG pillar as defined in the Group ESG Strategy. The Group ESG team works closely with different teams, particularly local investment teams, Eastspring, Group Risk and Government Relations, and is responsible for climate reporting and development of appropriate climate policies.

Job Scope: In line with the Group ESG strategy, the incumbent will be responsible for day-to-day ownership of Prudential’s climate and nature strategy, including setting and monitoring climate and nature related policy and targets, ensuring regulatory and standard compliance and working with risk team on climate scenarios development and analysis for the group. This includes reporting to governance committees including the Board Responsibility and Sustainability Working Group, the Group ESG Committee and other interested parties.

Principal accountabilities:

- Advance and implement Prudential’s environmental strategy and initiatives:

- Oversight of Prudential’s climate and nature commitments and day to day ownership of activity required to achieve these.
- Stay on top of key developments in the climate and nature space, inform the business strategy and ensure cohesion / incorporation with corporate strategy more broadly, including product and service development, based on a climate-related assessment of the business as appropriate.
- Advance and deliver the Group’s Climate Transition Plan.
- Embedding and delivering of environmental strategy through relevant business functions and business units, providing advice and recommendations on targets and escalation where needed.
- Create thought leadership products relevant for Prudential’s climate and nature ambition, including research projects to explore viability of new or more ambitious environmental targets.
- Innovate and explore internal and external collaborations to create a more sophisticated and impactful environmental strategy.
- Define and refine Group environmental policies, targets and impact measurement approaches, using climate scenario outputs and understanding of transition risk, including responsibility for:

- Periodic review and update of the Group’s climate and nature policies and targets, including expanding the scope of such policies and targets as needed.
- Socialisation of proposed policies and targets with functional stakeholders, LBUs, and executives.
- Collaborate across Group to define impact measurement approaches, data gathering and progress analysis.
- Working with business units and Group functions to monitor the level of embeddedness and compliance with group climate and nature policies, targets and impact measurement.
- Collaborate with functional teams developing climate scenario stress testing methodologies and metrics to further expand the scenario testing work and explore impacts on the Group strategy and planning.
- Climate change reporting:

- Ownership of the climate content of the ESG report and managing of external assurance process.
- Operationalise the agreed climate change metrics for regular internal reporting and potential future reporting, including the drafting of regular reports on Environmental metrics performance and development to Group’s management and ESG governance committees.
- Working with Risk & Compliance functions to jointly develop climate-related reporting to the Group Risk Committee.
- Working closely with Group colleagues and local business unit colleagues to educate and support their own reporting implementations.
- Oversee the successful completion of climate and nature disclosures including but not limited to rating agencies, investors, survey, media, etc. Responsible for successful completion of TCFD and SASB disclosure.
- Internal and External stakeholder communication:

- Speaking with NGOs, government and corporate affairs, investor relations, rating agencies, and supporting reporting to climate and nature related task-forces including CDP and TCFD, and responses to consultations.
