Our client is a venture builder based in Singapore. With a mission to develop new growth vectors in the region that address their global ambition to transform the energy world into a zero-carbon one, they build entirely new energy-related corporate-backed, independent ventures which will accelerate the transition to a low-carbon world. With a current portfolio of 7 startups, they have the vision to grow 3-4 new startups per year in the region.

**As VP Legal & Portfolios, you will have a dual role**:
be responsible for all legal, compliance and governance matters

support the startups since inception and through their fundraising rounds as they grow from a legal point of view and a portfolio monitoring approach

You will help to build legal competence in venture deals within organisation, familiarize the local management and develop their template legal documents based on a market conform risk allocation profile.

You will be responsible for managing the entire contract flow. You will be involved in all activities as a legal expert and will be required to liaise with the internal legal community to ensure alignment. Where outside legal counsel is required, you will be responsible for finding the most suitable law firm and managing legal spending. You will continuously look for innovative solutions to ensure that legal matters are handled in the most time and cost-efficient way.

You will be responsible for overseeing the startup portfolio, ensuring they are on track with their KPIs and comply with the regulatory framework. In this role, you will also be at the forefront of negotiating successful collaboration and investment projects between startups, the organisation and investors.

The role also offers an opportunity for you to act as Venture Architect and be part of building the next startups that are defining the energy transition. You will be part of a small team of 7-8 people, driven by the opportunity to create a positive change in the energy sector and build climate tech ventures.

**Responsibilities**:
Lead all ENGIE Factory legal aspects of working with startups across multiple countries and with a variety of investors, from the setup of the new ventures to the closing of startup investments, joint ventures or acquisitions.

Be a project manager responsible for all legal matters (contracts and compliance) associated with ENGIE Factory (updating our startup investment templates, leading contract negotiations, liaising with external legal counsel, overseeing government grants contracts,)

Oversee their governance framework and process and ensure consistency with Group policies.

Monitor the startup portfolio to ensure the ventures report on a regular basis and follow their KPIs.

Experience

Minimum 8 years of experience in legal work (corporate, law firm and/or venture capital firm)

Legal track record in venture capital and startup deals

Competencies and skills

Ability to combine legal acumen with corporate and startup reality

Ability to draft legal documentation

Pro-active, self-driven and detail-oriented

Great communication and presentation skills

Strong project management and organization skills

Strong skills with Microsoft Word and ability to work with modern communication and collaboration tools (Slack, Trello, Sharepoint, Salesforce and others)

Fluency in English (written and spoken) and having a local or regional track record

**Geographic scope & travel**: Regional role with Asia-Pacific and Middle East scope.
