The Dyslexia Association of Singapore Limited (DAS) provides a continuum of services for children

with dyslexia, their parents, mainstream teachers and other professionals in the field of dyslexia in

Singapore.

**JOB DESCRIPTION**
Position Educational Therapist (Preschool) - Flexi Scheme

Division/Branch Preschool Programme, SES Division

We are looking for individuals with a passion in teaching Preschool but are not able to commit to a

respond at short notice to cover classes at the different DAS learning centres. They must be able to

Ministry of Education (MOE) before they can start teaching at the DAS.

**About our Preschool Programme**
The aim of the Preschool Programme is to help Preschoolers who are potentially at risk of having

dyslexia or developmental delay in early literacy, develop skills and strategies to become confident

achievers when they enter primary school.

The programme helps Preschoolers acquire a good foundation in alphabet knowledge and

phonograms, leading up to learning sight words essential for reading. These abilities gear them

towards reading and spelling readiness. They will also be taught strategies to cope with letter

reversals. The programme follows a prescribed scope and sequence for systematic, sequential and

cumulative teaching.

**The duties of DAS Educational Therapist (Preschool) include

Lesson planning - Develop teaching methods and instructional materials that meet

young students’ varying needs while ensuring that students are well engaged and

having fun during lessons.Teaching - Deliver the Preschool curriculum/ lesson plans to meet the students' needs and

abilities.Marking students’ workFiling and maintaining student records as appropriateConducting pre
- and post
- tests if necessaryCarrying out parent communication - Sharing information and discussing issues relating

to students’ learning progress with parents during the school terms.Monitoring the progress of the students and writing progress reports every term.Teaching at external venues (e.g PCF centres) apart from teaching in DAS learning centresParticipating in DAS Preschool research efforts when required.

**TRAINING PROVIDED**
The DAS places great emphasis on providing a professional service and helping our teachers develop.

Educational Therapists (Preschool) on the flexi scheme (Flexi Preschool EdTs) **will need to** attend the

following courses:
Certificate in Dyslexia StudiesProfessional Certificate Course (PCC) in Preschool Literacy InterventionCertificate in Dyslexia and Literacy Teaching (CiDLT)

The DAS will fully sponsor the course fees for the training. In view of the sponsorship, there is a 2
- year minimum service period (MSP).

While the DAS is invested in providing training and support, Flexi Preschool EdTs are expected to

invest their personal time for the training and other matters such as attending lectures, completing

the necessary course work and preparing lesson plans for the classes they are teaching.

**MINIMUM SERVICE PERIOD**
In view of the full sponsorship by the DAS for the training course fees, there is a 2-year minimum

service period (MSP) that the Educational Therapists (Preschool) on the flexi scheme (Flexi Preschool

EdTs) have to serve. The MSP will start from the date of the first teaching class.

Compensation to the DAS is payable should the Flexi Preschool EdT not fulfil the MSP obligations.

During this 2-year MSP, Flexi Preschool EdTs are expected to fulfil 640 teaching hours (at a minimum

of 8 hours per week).

**Education**:
Degree from a recognised

university in related fields

such as Early Childhood,

Education, Special

(DECCE-T) and Certificate in

Education (DISE), Diploma

in Early Childhood

Intervention, or Advanced

Diploma in Early Childhood

Intervention (Special

Needs)

**Experience:

experience working

**WORKING HOURS**
Flexi Preschool EdTs are expected to work flexible hours

a) during weekends at DAS learning centres; and

b) on weekdays at external venues if required

They are expected to teach a minimum of eight (8) hours a week during MOE school terms.
