Head of Data Engineering

This position is working for a pan-Asian retailer within the digital ecosystem and reports into the CIO. Seeking an experienced, enthusiastic, and hands-on Head of Data Engineering who has worked on implementing data platforms across multiple countries. The Data Engineer supports the design, implementation and maintenance of data flow channels and data processing systems that support the collection, storage, batch and real-time processing, and analysis of information in a scalable, repeatable, and secure manner.

He/She focuses on defining optimal solutions to data collection, processing, and warehousing. The focus of the Data Engineering team will be on ingesting data to publish it to our lake house.

He/She is proficient in data systems, from ingestion to publishing including improving data quality and data virtualization. He is also familiar with the Google Cloud Data Platform and Azure Data Platform on which the solution is deployed on.

The Data Engineer is passionate about numbers and works with large data sets. He has a keenness for understanding business processes and resolving challenges in order to provide solutions with the help of clean and interlinked databases and architectures.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Manage the Data architecture and Data engineering team to support the organization.
- Overseeing the collection, storage, management, quality, and protection of data
- Building our Big Data Lake and infrastructure management, integrating existing data storages and date warehouses around the huge volumes of data being collected to meet business requirements
- Designing and delivering cloud-based big data solutions, data model and data analytics platforms
- Implementing efficient data pipelines to transform data from multiple data sources
- Building the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources
- Driving the advancement of Enterprise data infrastructure by designing and implementing the underlying logic and structure for how data are set up, cleansed, and ultimately stored for organizational usage
- Working with the latest open-source tools, libraries, platforms, and languages to build data products enabling other analysts to explore and interact with large and complex data sets
- Building robust systems, reusable code modules, and analytics tools that utilize the data pipeline, and creating data tools for analytics and data scientist team members to provide actionable insights
- Identifying, designing, and implementing internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.
- Building data engineering capability by providing technical leadership and career development for the team
- Working with rest of Data Foundation organization to strive for greater functionality in our data systems, as well as to identify, plan, develop, and deliver data services

**PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/ QUALIFICATIONS**
- At least 10-15 years management experience in the Data Management
- Experience of management of data and analytics projects
- Experience of working on projects that have involved the introduction of new ways of working / processes / methodologies into a business
- Highly proficient in Data Platforms, methods, techniques, tools and management
- Strong vendor and people management skills
