A Site Manager acts as the Main Technical Adviser on a construction site. He will advise and help on setting out, levelling and surveying the site, checking plans, drawings and quantities for accuracy of calculations.
He must ensure that all materials used and work perform are in accordance to specifications. He will aslo oversee the selection and requisition of materials and plant. He must oversee on prices for materials and making cost-effective solution and proposals for the project.
He must manage, monitor and interpret the contract design documents supplied by the Client/Architect and to guide the local engineers, local workers and sub-contractors to carry-out the works following these documents and to transfer his knowledge and expertise to overcome the current delay in works at the project site which is critical at the moment.
He must liaise with the consultants, sub-contractors, supervisors, planner, quantity surveyor and the general workforce involved in the project to ensure all local construction regulations and by-laws are adhere to.
He must attend regular meetings to keep the clients and their representative (architects, engineers and surveyors) up to date progress of works at the site.
He will also be involved in day-to-day management of the site, including supervising and monitoring the site labour force and the work of all subcontractors. He must plan and organize the supplies of materials, machineries and site facilities in order to overcome the delay of works at the site.
Due to his experience he will be involved in quality control, health and safety matters on site and to resolve any unexpected technical difficulties and other problems that arise at the site.
He will assist the management in ensuring that the project is completed on time and in accordance to the work schedule.
