Singapore Singapore Art Museum Full time

COMPANY DESCRIPTION
Singapore Art Museum opened in 1996 as the first art museum in Singapore. Also known as SAM, we present contemporary art from a Southeast Asian perspective for artists, art lovers and the art curious in multiple venues across the island, including a new venue in the historic port area of Tanjong Pagar.

SAM is building one of the world's most important public collections of Southeast Asian contemporary art, with the aim of connecting the art and the artists to the public and future generations through exhibitions and programmes. SAM is working towards a humane and sustainable future by committing to responsible practices within its processes.

DESIGNATION : Fellow - Sustainability (2-year contract)

RESPONSIBILITIES
**In Brief**

Sustainability plans and facilitates the Singapore Art Museum (SAM) and National Gallery Singapore's (Gallery) long-term environmental sustainability strategy and goals. Once the strategy has been developed, Sustainability will ensure that teams develop and implement green initiatives in alignment to the organisations' green strategy and will monitor the organisation's progress towards our green goals.

Sustainability also supports research and projects related to environmental sustainability and art making/thinking, with a focus on sustainable considerations in land art development. Sustainability will work closely with the Public Art Team at SAM to support the design and research for a new land art programme, and will drive engagement with the local and regional art community, as well as key local government and partner agencies, on research, presentations and best practices on sustainability in land art.

This Fellowship is made possible with support from Getty through its Global Art and Sustainability Fellows programme.

**Key Responsibilities**

Environmental Sustainability Strategy:

- Integrate metrics and initiatives from local and international models into a long-term environmental sustainability roadmap for SAM and Gallery.
- Inform leadership on external sustainability trends to determine impact on the organisation in the future. This includes benchmarking, identification of best practices, and market research.
- Combine research with data to assess effectiveness of the organisation's environmental sustainability efforts.
- Work closely with all teams at SAM and Gallery to ensure environmental planning and measures are consistent and in alignment with overall environmental sustainability strategy.

Land Art Research:

- Work closely with SAM's Public Art Team to survey land art practices in Singapore and Southeast Asia.
- Conduct research on sustainability implications of creating art with the environment, land and marine conservation in relation to land art, and long-term sustainable land art exhibition methods.
- Facilitate dialogue with artists and collaborators to examine and further discourse on land art practices in Singapore and Southeast Asia, in an expanded notion, and develop a vocabulary relevant to the region.
- Generate projects, workshops or residencies to take place at sites of practice.
- Develop guidelines for engagement with public/private stakeholders and custodians of nature on the creative practices behind public and land art.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong understanding of theory and practice in environmental sustainability, creative practices and environmental activism.
- Strong interest and specialised knowledge of contemporary art practice in Singapore and Asia.
- Ability to effectively communicate ideas and facilitate conversations with a diverse community.
- Ability to collaborate and build networks.
- Working experience in the visual arts or museum sector is preferred.
