Singapore is the regional headquarters for ING's Wholesale Banking (WB) business in Asia, which includes all WB business lines such as Financial Markets, Strategic Products, Sectors, Lending and Transaction Services and other support functions.
What does the TRM Team do in ING?
We offer different internship opportunities in different departments and locations of our Wholesale bank. This vacancy focusses on a position within TRM department.
TRM covers market risk management & control, as well as product control within ING.
Under market risk management and control, the team ensures that the trading (Financial Markets) and banking books of the bank are governed in line with the risk appetite set by the board and the senior management
Product control activities are related to controlling the P&L and balance sheet of the different trading desks under Financial Markets and Group Treasury.
What would you be doing?
Singapore is the regional hub for ING, including for TRM activities. There are a number of different Financial Markets desks controlled/supported by TRM including rates, credits, FX, etc, as well as Group Treasury which is in charge of asset liability management on a day-to-day (execution) basis. This includes managing the funding and liquidity requirements as well as interest rate (in banking books) and investments risks.
**The internship would cover**:
Understanding the business of the desk and how the risk framework is designed to control the activities
Daily P&L and Risk reporting and analysis
Working on ad hoc ongoing projects related to risk management
Assisting the team lead in specific risk analysis as and when required
There would be exposure to policies and procedures governing this desk, which in turn are based on a number of items including regulations, bank’s risk management philosophy, current economic climate, etc.
What qualities, skills and other criteria are we looking for?
Major in Finance/accounting streams
Good written and oral communication skills
Should have sufficient knowledge of MS Excel
VBA / coding knowledge is a plus
Good time management and adaptability
What would you gain from this internship?
Interns leave with a broad understanding of how a bank’s Market Risk department is set up and operates. He/She/They will have exposure to all asset classes across Treasury and FM Trading, and a clearer understanding of the jobs done on these desks, and potential future career options.
