An exciting opportunity working as a Head of CAT Management within a growing business unit based in Singapore.
- How do we as a CAT Management team use models to drive more value and profit in Canopius?
- How do we manage nonmodelled exposures to avoid unanticipated losses and encourage the practices of a diverse profitable portfolio?
How do we provide market leading CAT bet analytics?
**Main Responsibilities**:
- Active involvement in developing relationships with UW with the aim of integrating UW and CAT frameworks and goals - this involves confident and timely delivery of analytics and the ability to explain results.
- Work in collaboration with the CAT Management team in London to drive CAT projects across all lines of business, including research and development assignments (approach for non-modelled perils, climate change scoring, CAT model validation, refine Canopius view of risk, etc.).
- Translating functionality of the Asian and Pacific (AU/NZ) perils models to UW including their strengths/weaknesses, data quality considerations and how this impacts the modelled losses.
- Create a narrative based on the modelling data and other sources to effectively provide a valuable summary of a certain risks and give advice to UW on the strengths and weaknesses of both the data and the model’s ability to provide meaningful results. This includes communicating the concept of uncertainty.
- Working very closely with UW to drive decision making for complex risks that fall outside of scope of vendor models including complex reinsurance structures and non-modelled risks.
- Have the confidence to drive process change by overhauling existing processes and implementing methodologies that streamline workflow and processes.
- Contribute to internal and regulatory reporting including monthly roll ups and RDS submissions.
- Prepare report for the management post CAT event to assess our exposure from the various lines of business and a range for potential losses (based on market information, similar past events, UW insights, vendor model scenarios, etc.).
- Manage and mentor a CAT risk analyst based in Singapore.
**Skills and Experience**:
- S
- At least 6 years of CAT Modelling experience in any business line but ideally with a good understanding of the (re)insurance market.
- Deep understanding of and previous experience interacting with the main model vendors (RMS, VERISK) and alternative modelling solution providers. Strong GIS skills.
- Very familiar with the Asian and Pacific insurance markets and active experience working as a CAT modeller in the Asia-Pac perils market (preferably Singapore).
- Must have detailed knowledge on the data considerations in the models used in the region. This will include explaining to UW how these factors impact the modelled losses.
- At least 2:1 degree in an analytical discipline (Maths, Science, Engineering, Economics).
- Highly numerate and logical - strong mathematical/statistical knowledge a must.
- Ability to manipulate large data sets in Excel and SQL.
- Advanced experience with MS SQL is a strong advantage. Ability to build/design and manipulate queries to improve process.
- Familiarity with another programming language such as VBA,.NET, R, Python is an advantage.
- Excellent business communication skills - ability to influence, negotiate, and listen to external parties and members of the CAT Management team.
