Mathematics and Mathematics Education Academic Group (MME)
at the NIE is part of the Singapore mathematics education ecology that has produced a world-class system for students of varied abilities. Our vision is to be a world-class symbiosis of mathematics educators and mathematicians. A mathematician educator is a teacher of mathematics who bases his/her pedagogy on a strong foundation of mathematics disciplinarity, learning theories and mathematics education research findings. Our mission is to nurture mathematician educators for Singapore and the world through research and exemplary teaching. MME staff engage in research in mathematics education and mathematics to meet the needs of teachers within a changing environment, upholding the mathematical rigour essential to a productive STEM education. We constantly seek innovative and research-informed ways of delivering mathematics content and pedagogy courses in an effort to develop best practices as we collaborate with educators in the schools.
**Requirements**:
- A PhD in Mathematics Education from a reputable university.- A strong record of research and publications in reputable peer-reviewed international journals, including but not restricted to:
- Have significant number of publications in top Tier mathematics education journals;-
- Have been editorial board members of international mathematics education research journals.-
- A strong record in university teaching in mathematics education courses for pre-service and in-service teachers, including but not limited to:
- Have led in conceptualizing and designing mathematics teacher professional development courses; and-
- Have taught significantly many different mathematics education courses at both the pre-service and in-service levels.-
- A strong record of leadership in research management (e.g., securing competitive research grants of at least USD 1 million) and curriculum development, including members of advisory boards of the national levels such as the Ministry of Education in the various countries.- Must have past experience teaching in schools for K-12 levels.
**Responsibilities**:
- contribute to teaching and course development at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels for mathematics education;- develop a research programme and secure competitive mathematics education research grants for the Mathematics & Mathematics Education Academic Group;- supervise graduate and undergraduate students in mathematics education research and school practicum;- teach mathematics education courses from pre-service to postgraduate levels;- teach elementary mathematics content courses for undergraduate pre-service teachers;- mentor young faculty members and serve in the NIE / NTU committees, and offer professional services to schools, the Ministry of Education and other public education-related organizations on a request basis.
