Research Assistant

We are currently looking for a Research Assistant to work within our ex-vivo model development project. The group uses microbial and molecular biology techniques to develop the model for nutritional testing purposes. This role will be mostly focus on microbial cell culturing, running bioassays as well as extraction of DNA from samples, and will additionally involve other general support work in a busy research environment.
Other notes: This project involves close collaboration with external entities (internationally renowned nutrition company as well as a start-up).
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in sample collection and sample processing from biological samples from aquaria
- Handling and maintaining cultures of microbial isolates
- Perform viable microbial counts and bioassays in accordance to protocol
- Genomic DNA extraction with high quality for next generation sequencing
- Troubleshooting and optimization of existing protocols
- Plan, prepare and execute laboratory experiments
- Results compilation and reporting
- Attend scientific meetings with supervisors
Job Requirements:
- A university degree, Polytechnic diploma or extensive laboratory experience in Molecular Biology, Microbiology or related fields.
- Experience in molecular biology and microbiology lab for more than 6 months
- General working knowledge of sterile technique and basic molecular biological techniques
- Practical knowledge in aseptic techniques, media preparation, cell culturing
- Experience in genomic DNA extraction is highly desirable
- Familiarity with best laboratory practice and health & safety regulations
- Ability to work with mínimal supervision
- Ability to manage and maintain laboratory records and documentation.
