Singapore SFA Singapore Food Agency Full time

You will be part of a dynamic team of Food Science Rapid Response Department (FSRRD) under NCFS to develop rapid diagnostic methods for pathogen identification to support SFA’s food safety testing, disease surveillance and outbreak investigations. This position provides an opportunity for you to learn and hone your skills in cutting edge testing and diagnostic technologies, which support the creation of on-site rapid diagnosis system in a mobile laboratory platform to address the real-world issues and upkeep the food safety for Singapore. As a Scientist working in the Food Microbiology Team under FSRRD, you will also play a key role in strengthening and broadening the technical capabilities in fast and robust approaches to detect emerging or re-emerging foodborne pathogens and contributing expert opinion to support the risk assessment of food safety and the evaluation of technical standards and regulatory policies.

**Duties**:

- Develop and implement projects that allow rapid detection of pathogenic microbes in food and related environmental samples to support food safety regulatory programmes and foodborne outbreak investigations.
- Conduct sample preparation, testing, analysis, troubleshooting, and evaluation of the detection systems to validate the robustness of assay performance for suitability of use as onsite diagnostic tools in mobile laboratory platform.
- Keep abreast of the current trends and technologies from market research to develop knowledge of rapid detection platforms for operational use.
- Adhere to the laboratory quality assurance programmes for operational needs, including validate/verify develop assays, prepare SOPs and risk assessment reports, conduct stress-test/internal quality control testing to ensure that the laboratory practices are in full compliances with requirements of ISO/IEC 17025:2017 quality standard and biosafety regulations.
- Provide support in laboratory operation needs to ensure the project deliverables attain milestones, such as procurement of lab equipment and consumables, contract management, etc.
- Carry out any other laboratory and administrative duties as assigned by supervisor to maximize laboratory efficiency.

**Qualifications/ Other Requirements**:

- Ph.D, Master, BSc with experience in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Biological Science, Food Science, Virology, or other relevant disciplines.
- At least 2 years of hands-on laboratory and project management experience in (food) microbiology and molecular biology in molecular diagnostics or research laboratory environment.
- Working knowledge of advanced rapid diagnostic tools and molecular techniques, such as RT-LAMP technique and portable biosensors, would be an advantage.
- Excellent writing and presenting abilities are essential.
- Must be self-motivated, able to work independently and as a team, and prepared to take on extra responsibilities as and when needed.
- Must have a good mindset to multitask in a fast-paced atmosphere and deliver results according to stipulated timeline.
- Knowledge of quality assurance program and ISO/IEC 17025:2017 laboratory quality system is beneficial but not a must.
