Laboratory Technician

**B - Job Summary**:
As a member of the laboratory shift team, the job holder will carry out raw materials, in-process and final product analysis in the laboratory, ensuring that the analysis is carried out timely to the required standards of quality and in a cost effective manner.

**C - Job Description**:
1. Participate in the production daily morning shift team meeting.

2. Conduct the laboratory morning meeting according to meeting agenda.

3. Collect samples in the plant and other locations for analysis as per schedule or request.

4. Perform laboratory analytical work in accordance with approved procedures and approved equipment in the laboratory and to meet the prescribed Safety, Occupational Health, Environment and Quality requirements.

5. Report all results of analysis accurately and promptly in the laboratory quality database.

6. Maintain good communication with Operations staff to ensure smooth and effective sampling and analysis.

7. Participate in setting up analyzers. Execute simple repair, replace of equipment consumable parts and troubleshooting of analyzers. Report to superior immediately if any analyzer abnormality is found.

8. Carry out internal calibration of laboratory measuring and test equipment according to prescribed intervals as specified in the Laboratory calibration Program.

9. Ensure the calibration records are properly recorded and submit for review.

10. Undertake additional routine analysis request during the night time or weekends as per request from Production staff during shift work.

11. Carry out preparation and standardization of laboratory reagents. Proper labelling of the prepared reagent in accordance to the procedure.

12. Update and maintain chemicals and laboratory supplies inventory records accurately and promptly.

13. Ensure all laboratory measuring and test equipment are properly maintained and in good working order.

14. Assist in training of other laboratory technicians.

15. Try to teach and learn analytical skills with other analysts mutually to enhance your skills.

16. Ensure highest standards of safety, hygiene and housekeeping in the laboratory and proper disposal of laboratory waste.

17. To be aware and alert of the potentially hazardous nature of the chemicals in the area and take appropriate precautions.

18. To observe quality, health and safety rules and regulations at work at all times in accordance with company set standard and the laboratory quality & safety rules.

19. Have a legal obligation to act in a responsible manner for the safety of themselves and of other persons who may be affected by their actions or omissions at work.

20. Shall cooperate with the company in the implementation of the company’s safe work practices and other arrangements necessary for achieving the Safety, Occupational Health, Environment & Quality Policy and its associated objectives.

21. Must promptly report any incident and near miss, including minor injury, equipment / material damage, chemical spill etc

22. Maintain confidentiality of all correspondence and assignment.

23. Business transactions and communication with other parties are to be conducted in a professional manner.

24. Execute and support the implemented IMS systems and processes according to the standards’ requirements ie: OHSAS 18K, ISO 14K, ISO 9K, ISO 45K, SS651 and Responsible Care.
