**About the Organisations and the Role**:
The National Junior Coach / Singapore Sports School Coach - Foil will be responsible for the planning, implementation, and coordination of Foil development programmes at both the national junior level and within the Singapore Sports School.
This includes:
- **High-Performance Coaching**:Establishing and conducting age-appropriate training programmes for Singapore Sports School student-athletes and national junior team members, including those in the spexPotential programme.
- **Program Development**:Designing and implementing training and competition plans based on long-term athlete development principles, under the guidance of the National Head Coach (Foil).
- **Athlete Management**:Providing individualised coaching and support to student-athletes and national junior team members, encompassing technical, tactical, psychological preparation and promoting overall wellbeing to ensure sustained high performance and personal development
- **Collaboration**:Working closely with the National Head Coach (Foil), the High Performace Team, secretarial team, school staff, club/personal coaches and external stakeholders to achieve sporting goals and holistic development of student-athletes.
- **Talent Identification**:Assisting in the talent identification and selection of aspiring national athletes.
- **Performance Monitoring**:Establishing and implementing effective monitoring and assessment strategies and tools to assess the performance progression of all student-athletes and national junior team members.
- **Values Inculcation**:Supporting a conducive environment within the Fencing Academy to inculcate values and socio-emotional competencies for all-rounded development of student-athletes.
- **Competition Support**:Supporting the student-athletes and national junior team members in local and overseas competitions as required.
**Terms of Reference (TOR)**:
**1. Responsibilities**:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive training programme for Foil fencers at the Singapore Sports School and national junior level, aligned with long-term athlete development principles.
- Provide expert coaching and mentorship to student-athletes and national junior team members, including those in the spexPotential Programme.
- Assist the National Head Coach (Foil) in the development of junior fencers transitioning to the senior category.
- Work collaboratively with club/personal coaches for Cadets progressing into the Junior category, fostering a strong pipeline
- Collaborate with the National Head Coach (Foil) to establish and implement effective performance monitoring and assessment strategies and tools to assess performance progression of all student-athletes, ensuring continuous progression and development
- Contribute to talent identification and selection of aspiring national athletes.
- Foster a positive, value-driven environment within the Fencing Academy that promotes socio-emotional competencies, trust, and a strong culture of support to develop student-athletes to become learned champions with character
- Support the student-athletes in local and overseas competitions as required.
- Maintain open communication and collaboration with key stakeholders—including teachers, mentors, boarding colleagues, and parents—to holistically manage student-athletes' development and balance their academic and sporting commitments.
- Actively contribute to school projects where required
**2. Key Deliverables**:
- Development and implementation of age-appropriate training programmes for Foil fencers.
- Effective monitoring and assessment of student-athlete performance progression.
- Successful development of junior fencers for transition to the senior category.
- Achievement of key performance indicators: WJCC medal and SEA Games medal in 2027.
- Strong collaboration and communication with all relevant stakeholders.
**3. Required Qualifications and Experience**:
- At least 5 years of competitive coaching experience with elite and developmental foil youth athletes (ages 12-21 years-old), preferably with exposure to regional/international cadet and junior championships.
- Possesses an international/national coaching qualification in Fencing recognised or accredited by FIE.
- Possesses at least SG-Coach Level 1 certification or equivalent and is registered with the National Registry of Coaches (NROC).
- For foreign coach selected for the position, the Singapore Sports School will facilitate the registration with the NROC.
- Possesses a valid Standard First Aid + CPR/AED certification.
- Must be registered with the Ministry of Education.
- Displays good understanding of sports science as applied to elite youth sports based on long term athlete development principles.
- Competent in values inculcation and character development for student-athletes.
- Good planning, administrative and organisational skills.
- Able to communicate well in English with student-athletes and stakeholders.
