Project Title: Diaspora tourism and well-being: (Re)connecting the Kinmen community in Singapore with their ancestral homeland via tangible and intangible heritage [RI 5/24 ZJJ]

Project Introduction: This research seeks to investigate the relationship between diaspora tourism and mental well-being. More specifically it examines travel experiences among Singaporeans of Kinmenese descent who participated in root-tracing tours organised by the Kinmen County Government. The research aims to; 1. Examine the strategies employed by the Kinmen County Government to engage diaspora tourists; 2. Analyse the ways through which diaspora tourism promotes sustainable tourism development and mental wellness.

Requirements:

- Essential_
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences with an emphasis in one of the following: Geography, History, Sociology, Social Work, or related disciplines
- Proficient in academic writing in English
- Experience in qualitative research
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to conduct interviews in Mandarin, due to the need to engage Mandarin-speaking research participants
- Good interpersonal and oral communication skills
- Preferred_
- Positive attitude towards learning and doing research
- Ability to manage project admin work
- Ability to work independently and manage fieldwork

Responsibilities:

- Prepare research reports including literature reviews
- Assist with data collection, interviewing, transcribing of interviews, analysis, and other research-related activities
- Liaise with research participants and other stakeholders, arrange meetings, prepare schedules, etc.
- Help in organizing events, talks, seminars etc.
- Other tasks as assigned by the Principal Investigator (PI)
