Singapore SFA Singapore Food Agency Full time

As a Senior Scientist/Specialist Team Lead working in the Food Additives and/or Food Allergens Team under FSRRD, playing a key role in leading the developing of new analytical methods for strengthening and broadening the testing capabilities and for enabling risk assessment to support SFA’s operation needs for food safety regulatory function and market monitoring programmes. You are also required to conduct review of food safety from time to time.

**Duties**:

- Strategise and implement projects to enhance the testing strategy, develop, and validate new test methods to support food safety regulatory programmes, foodborne outbreak investigations and keep laboratory competency abreast of international food regulatory development.
- Manage a team of scientists on testing capability development, including experimental design, approach, and troubleshooting.
- Familiar with sample testing on food additives and/or food allergens to support SFA food safety regulatory and monitoring programs, implementing laboratory quality system to ensure full compliance to ISO/IEC 17025:2017 requirements.
- Steer the sense making of testing results and trending, conduct sound risk assessment to flag out unusual data drifts and provide scientific recommendations to support policy making, standard setting and fine-tuning of sampling and testing programmes.
- Communicate testing outcomes, technical findings, expert opinions and research accomplishments through reports, presentations, and scientific publications.
- Serve as an expert witness in Court to support prosecution cases for the enforcement of food safety rules and regulations.
- Provide guidance to the teams ensuring smooth laboratory operations, address capability gaps, handle administrative matters and uphold the lab quality assurance programme.
- Plan and lead the procurement of scientific equipment and laboratory supplies based on the operation needs, ensuring full compliance with financial rules and regulations.
- Contribute to laboratory training and organisation of proficiency testing program in support of the NCFS’s role as WHO Collaborating Centre and OIE Collaborating Centre.
- Carry out other assignments as designated by the upper management.

**Qualifications/ Other Requirements**:

- At least a Master or PhD in Chemistry, Food Science, or other related scientific fields.
- Good knowledge and hand-on experience in sample extraction, cleanup and detection of foodborne chemical hazards using advanced instrumentation.
- Prior experiences in implementing ISO/IEC 17025:2017 laboratory quality system is beneficial.
- Must have excellent written and verbal skills.
- Demonstrate proactiveness, self-motivation, work independently, team player and most importantly willingness to take on additional duties when required.
