Risk and Compliance Manager

**Overview of the Role**

Safeguard the firm by setting limits, measuring risk (daily MtM, Historical VaR), and enforcing discipline.

Establish and enforce the risk and compliance framework for all trading activities. Monitor positions, validate hedge strategies, ensure regulatory alignment, and manage reporting of financial risk metrics like VaR, MTM, and credit exposure.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Own risk policy and limit framework (product, tenor, counterparty, credit); run pre-trade approvals.
- Produce daily MtM, VaR, stress/scenario; perform backtesting and P&L explain; escalate breaches.
- Oversee counterparty credit limits, exposure monitoring, and collateral/margin arrangements.
- Coordinate with Treasury on LCs/FX/liquidity; ensure clean audit trails and reporting to ManCom/Group CFO.
- Lead model validation and new-product approvals; maintain DOIs/SoDs and control attestations.
- Design hedging frameworks and ensure integration of physical/derivatives positions into the company’s risk system
- Establish risk policies and limits across physical and derivatives trading—VaR, stress testing, exposures
- Monitor & report trading activity, P&L attribution, exceptions, limit breaches, compliance metrics
- Ensure daily mark-to-market, collateral/margin management and regulatory compliance
- Perform portfolio risk analysis (VaR/explained P&L/historical simulation) across 1‑month holding periods
- Calculate daily/weekly VaR using both parametric and historical models.
- Develop internal risk dashboards and reports for senior management.
- Serve as gatekeeper for trade approvals, compliance checks, and risk escalations.
- Liaise with finance and treasury for capital, funding, and hedge accounting
- Communicate risk and performance to senior management; help build scalable risk governance
- Coordinate with auditors, finance, and external regulators as needed
- Contribute to training and awareness around risk across the team.
- Extend relevant support to other departments such as, but not limited to cascading and/or adopting initiatives, programs, projects and activities
- Conforms to the company’s Quality, Environmental, Occupational Health and Safety, and Information Security Management Systems policies, standards, procedures, and guidelines based on ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, and ISO 27001 Standards
- Reports Environmental, Occupational Health and Safety, and Information Security events/incidents or potential events, or other security risks to the organization/ committees-in-charge
- Protects information assets from unauthorized access, disclosure, modification, destruction, or interference in accordance with ISMS policies. Maintains availability, confidentiality, and integrity of documentsPerforms other tasks and responsibilities that may be assigned

**Requirements**:

- At least 6 years in commodities middle-office risk; implemented VaR/MtM and limit frameworks.
- Expert in Historical VaR, stress/scenario design, and backtesting; strong analytical rigor.
- Familiar with credit risk (limits, exposure measurement) and treasury interfaces (LCs, FX).
- High independence and assertiveness; comfortable halting trades on breaches.
- Clear, high-level communication; impeccable documentation and compliance record.
- Technical proficiency with risk software (Murex, Calypso, Bloomberg), SQL/Python/Excel modeling.
- Regulatory and accounting literacy (IFRS hedge accounting, margin requirements)
- Excellent communication of complex risk concepts to both traders and senior stakeholders
- Strategic thinker, able to prioritize, escalate, and lead risk dialogue.
- Preferred: some coal/energy market exposure, local/regional knowledge.

License/s:

- CFA/FRM or similar certification preferred.
