**Job Description
The Solaris team is responsible for Engineering, Performance Management, Capacity Planning and Administration of the Solaris SPARC environment. It is an intellectually stimulating environment with the latest Operating System and highly motivated staff focused on automation. This position fundamentally requires proficiency in managing a large Solaris environment, engineering new solutions, and maintaining an acceptable level of performance from Solaris systems. The emphasis is on engineering solutions for routine administration tasks.
**Qualifications:
Minimum 2 years' experience in engineering and administration of UNIX environment (Solaris is a definite plus).
Excellent Scripting skills in KSH & Perl. Python & C++ a distinct advantage.
A deep understanding of UNIX concepts to include performance considerations of each subsystem as well as the APIs used to access those subsystems.
Solaris11 experience including AI & IPS.
Mdb, DTrace, and snoop / tcpdump should look familiar to you.
Project management experience on medium to large scale projects.
Excellent team player
Knowledge of a configuration management system (cfengine, puppet, chef) a plus.
**Responsibilities:
Participate in an energetic and active group environment, present ideas for review by a team of peers, seek ideal solutions through evaluation of merit, and achieve consensus on the final design.
Engineer solutions for deployment, performance management, and maintenance of Solaris based systems with an emphasis on quality of design that is efficient, usable, maintainable, and extensible.
Package solutions for deployment in Solaris 11 IPS and very rarely Solaris 10 SVR4 packages.
Enhance solutions to speed up the upgrades and updates of Solaris OS.
Enhance solutions to manage and deploy Solaris OS tunables.
Test and certify newer SPARC hardware as well as new releases of the Solaris Operating System.
