It all began in 1989 in a basement office under a dry cleaners in Belgravia, London. Three pioneering brokers, Graham Cooper, Robert Smits and John Gilbert were joined by their excellent assistant Ala Mitkowska and Oil Brokerage was created. The goal of the company has always been straightforward: to provide a high-quality trusted broking service to the oil trading community with a personal touch. As time has moved on the dedication and attention to every bid, offer and trade has remained unchanged. The focus on oil broking remains undiminished and undiluted despite the growth of the company. 1989 Beginning of Oil brokerage Ltd in a basement office under a dry cleaner in Belgravia, London. 2006 OB started its paper business having since then grown to be a major market´s participants. 2009 Naphtha derivatives desk was set up and has already risen to be one of the leading brokers of Naphtha in the European market. 2011 James McNicol and Leon Christophilopoulos bought Oil Brokerage. James became CEO shortly after realising just how much he loved the company. 2015 Opening of the Singapore Office. 2016 This year marked the beginning of OB’s shipping integration. The FFA desk has grown to 11 members operating from London and Singapore, competing for market leadership. 2018 Opening of the Houston Office. 2019 Several desks were launched widening the company products and presence in the market. One of the most successful one in the market been the LNG desk. 2020 Oil Brokerage enters the ship broking business appointing Nick Mahoney as head of it’s new ship broking division. 2021 Opening of the Dubai Office 2024 The company will continue to expand its activities in order to meet the needs of a more sophisticated and fast-moving market
